March 1, 2007

Stonehill College senior co-captain Tiffany Huggins was named on Thursday evening as the 2006-2007 Northeast-10 Conference Women's Basketball Defensive Player of the Year in a vote of the league's coaches. Additionally, two other Skyhawks were honored with respective all-conference recognition as the 2006-2007 Final Four banquet held earlier tonight on the campus of Southern Connecticut State University.

Huggins, a native of Stoughton, Mass. and a graduate of Brockton High School, is the second Stonehill player to garner the accolade in conference history, as she joins former Skyhawk standout Becky Barrett '99, who won the award for her efforts during the 1996-97 campaign. Huggins leads Head Coach Trisha Brown's squad in rebounding from her point guard spot at 6.3 caroms per contest to date while adding 4.3 assists and 2.6 steals per game, as she ranks third in the Northeast-10 in both of the latter categories while adding 7.9 points per contest as well to date.

In addition to Huggins's honor, fellow senior co-captain Alisha Collins (Port Chester, N.Y./Trinity Catholic) was named to the 2006-2007 Northeast-10 first-team all-conference squad for the second straight season. Collins, who earned the nod as both Northeast-10 and ECAC Division II Player of the Year last season, averages 15.9 ppg (fourth best in the conference) and 6.0 rpg to date while shooting 73 percent from the foul line in 25 contests this winter. Collins has moved into 10th place on Stonehill's career scoring list with 1,371 points.

Freshman Megan Methven (Corning, N.Y./Corning Painted-Post East) rounded out the third Skyhawk to be honored with a Northeast-10 post-season award, as she earned a spot on the 2006-2007 league All-Freshman team after averaging 11 points per game and leading the conference in three-point field goals per game. Methven has connected for 72 treys during her rookie campaign and has topped the 20-point mark on four occasions, tying the school single-game record with eight three-pointers in a December victory over Bryant.

Stonehill, 22-7 to date this season, will make its 20th appearance in 26 seasons in the Northeast-10 Final Four on Friday evening when the fifth-seeded Skyhawks take on top-seeded and seventh-ranked Southern Connecticut in semi-final round action of the 2007 Northeast-10 Championships at the Moore Fieldhouse in New Haven, Conn. beginning at 8:00 p.m. EST.
