Curran Earns Spot On 2006-2007 New England Hockey Writers ECAC Northeast All-Star Squad After Record Setting Performance For Northeast-10 Champion Skyhawks

April 4, 2007

Easton, Mass.-- Stonehill College junior forward Matt Curran has been named to the 2006-2007 New England Hockey Writers ECAC Northeast All-Star Squad in a vote of league coaches and media members.

A native of Scarborough, Maine and a graduate of North Yarmouth Academy, Curran posted a record-setting season for Head Coach Scott Harlow's Skyhawks, scoring a school single-season record 30 goals and adding 14 assists for 44 points in 26 contests, including a four-goal performance in a 6-2 victory over Assumption in the Northeast-10 Conference semi-finals as well as a three-point performance in the league championship series against Saint Anselm that resulted in Stonehill's first-ever conference crown.

Curran also earned first team all-Northeast-10 accolades for his performance this season, as included in his resume this season were a team-best 16 power play goals, three shorthanded tallies and a pair of game-winners. His 30 goals this season eclipsed the previous high-water mark of 27 set by former conference Player of the Year Rob Pascale during the 2002-2003 season, as he led the Northeast-10 in goals and finished third in overall scoring. Curran enters his senior campaign with 49 goals and 33 assists for 82 career points in 71 games.

Stonehill capped a school-record tying 14-win season by taking its first-ever Northeast-10 championship in dramatic fashion, as the Skyhawks overcame a 9-3 first game setback in the title series to Saint Anselm by posting their first-ever win over the Hawks in the second championship outing (5-3) and then claiming a 2-1 double overtime triumph in the decisive mini-game. Harlow, who was named as the Northeast-10 Coach of the Year for the second straight year and for the fourth time in his career, guided Stonehill to its highest regular season league finish ever with a 3-1-1 conference slate that was good for second place.
