March 4, 2006

Stonehill College freshman forward Brendan O'Brien has been named as the 2005-2006 Northeast-10 Conference Ice Hockey Freshman of the Year in a vote of the league's coaches, as he is one of three Skyhawks to earn all-conference accolades for their performances this winter.

Stonehill Head Coach Scott Harlow was also recognized by his peers as the 2005-2006 Northeast-10 Conference Coach of the Year, marking the third time in six seasons that he has garnered that honor.

A native of Braintree, Mass. and a graduate of the Deerfield School, O'Brien tied for the conference scoring title with 10 goals and a school-record 32 assists for 42 points, as he was named as the Northeast-10 Freshman of the Week on eight occasions this season. O'Brien, who posted 13 multiple-point performances in 24 contests as a rookie, tied the school single-game record for assists with four helpers on two occasions, including a 5-4 season-opening win at Saint Michael's and a 7-3 league quarterfinal round triumph over Assumption. O'Brien, who became the fifth Stonehill student-athlete to be featured in Sports Illustrated's "Faces In The Crowd" column in mid-February, earned first team all-conference accolades for his efforts this season, and he is the third Skyhawk to earn the nod as a Northeast-10 Freshman of the Year this winter alone, joining Stonehill basketball standouts Nick Smith and Kelsey Simonds in that regard.

Senior forward Brian Dudley (Waltham, Mass./Waltham) and junior goalie Josh Green (Mendon, Mass./Gunnery Prep) joined O'Brien in earning all-league accolades for Stonehill, as both individuals earned spots on the second team all-conference squad. Dudley finished tied for second in scoring with 13 goals and 18 assists for 31 points, as he led the Skyhawks with three game-winning tallies on the year, while Green posted a 10-4 mark in net for Stonehill with a 2.98 goals against average, making 407 saves for a .911 saves percentage and earning the nod as the league's Goalie of the Week three times during the winter.

Harlow, a former All-America standout at Boston College, earned Northeast-10/ECAC Division II Coach of the Year accolades for the third time in six seasons, as he previously won the honor both in 2001 and 2002. The winningest coach in Stonehill history, Harlow has guided the Skyhawks to 67 victories during his tenure and tied the school single season record for wins this winter with 14 triumphs, as Stonehill won 11 of its last 15 outings (including a school record nine-game winning streak) to finish at 14-10 overall, good for third place in the final league standings.
