When Nancy Smith graduated from Stonehill College in 1983, she established a standard of excellence for women’s athletics. Nancy played three sports – soccer, basketball, and softball – and performed with excellence. Her team also did well under her leadership. She captained all three squads her senior year. Her No. 11 basketball jersey was retired after Nancy established all new standards for Stonehill College point guards. She was the starting point guard on the first Northeast-8 Conference Championship team in 1983. Her basketball team won 20 or more games her four years at Stonehill. Nancy was twice selected to the second All America Softball team. A business major, Nancy, who now lives in Weymouth, is a technical analyst for a Boston computer company. Nancy played guard, goalie and shortstop and was outstanding at each. Her softball team won three state titles and Nancy was selected Most Valuable Player in the State Tournament as a freshman. In her senior year, Nancy was the female student/athlete selected for the Edward F. Martin Award. She was also the MVP of Stonehill’s holiday tournament as a freshman.
