Women’s Cross Country Places 4th in Season Opener at Suffolk Short Course Classic

BOSTON, Mass. (September 1, 2023) - The Stonehill College women's cross-country team opened their 2023 season competing in the Suffolk Short Course Classic at Franklin Park Friday afternoon. The Skyhawks concluded the day in fourth place with UConn taking first place, followed by Northeastern in second place, and WPI placing third.

Highlights

  • Emma Lawrence (Milford, Mass./Milford) led the pack for the Skyhawks, finishing in 15th place, crossing the finish line at 11:50.4 in the women's 3K. This was her first time competing in a 3k race during the cross-country season.
  • Five Skyhawks finished the race in consecutive order, taking spots 30-34 in the final standings and all finishing within a span of just 2.7 seconds. Emily Young (Newton, Mass./Beverly) came in 30th (12:14.8), Kellie Harrington (Pittsfield, Mass./Pittsfield) finished one spot later (12:15.3), Iasmim De Sousa-Vieira (Medford, Mass./Medford) finished 32nd (12:16.2), Jessica Kenyon (Monson, Mass./Pope Francis Prep) was 33rd to finish (12:16.4), and Sydney Kalil (Milford, Mass./Milford) came in 34th place (12:16.9).

Other Performances

  • Molly Nyhan made her collegiate debut with a 36th-place finish, crossing the finish line in 12:18.0.
  • Caroline Surrette (Woburn, Mass./Woburn Memorial) finished her first 3k in 12:35.6 to place 43rd for Stonehill.
