Hanrahan Joins Volleyball Staff

EASTON, Mass. (August 8, 2022)- Stonehill College volleyball head coach, Craig Martin announced the addition of Joe Hanrahan to the program as an assistant coach Monday afternoon.

Prior to Stonehill, Hanrahan was an assistant on the Merrimack College coaching staff and has had stops at multiple local colleges including Dean, WPI, and Bentley University.

During his time at Dean, he was the head coach of both the men's and women's volleyball teams where he guided the women's team to seven wins including a stretch where the Bulldogs won four-straight matches in a row. On the men's side, he helped Dean earn three wins before the season was cut short due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

While with WPI, Hanrahan helped the Engineers earn a spot in the New England Women's and Men's Athletic Conference (NEWMAC) tournament quarterfinals in a season in which the league sent three teams to the NCAA Tournament.

Hanrahan's two seasons with the Bentley men's squad were highly successful as he guided the Falcons to top-25 national rankings throughout his tenure. In 2019, Hanrahan and the Falcons finished ranked 20th in the country in the final National Collegiate Volleyball Federation, Inc. (NCVF) rankings.

His reach in the club volleyball world extends to his role as the director of the MGA Volleyball Club based in Hanover, Mass. where he helped manage 40 club members with practice and monthly tournaments.

A former standout student-athlete in his own right, Hanrahan was a four-year member of the Regis College men's team, ending his career as the school's all-time leader in assists (2,121). He was named to the NECC All-Sportsmanship team as a junior in 2016, and then as a senior in 2017, he averaged ten assists per set and set a school record for assists in a season (870), and earned second-team all-conference honors.

Stonehill capped its last season in Division II with a 22-10 record (eighth 20-win season in program history), including 10-3 in the NE10 which also featured a No. 1 East Region ranking for the first time in program history early last season. After earning a bid to the NCAA Tournament, the Skyhawks earned its first NCAA Tournament win in program history with a three-set sweep of Jefferson University. The Skyhawks begin regular season play when they head to UNC Asheville to take part in the UNC Asheville Invitational on August 26-27.
