Skyhawks sweep Molloy after dropping a three-set loss to host Lock Haven

LOCK HAVEN, Pa. (September 12, 2009) - The Stonehill College volleyball team split a pair of matches on two day of the Lock Haven University Invitational today. The Skyhawks first dropped a 3-0 (25-8, 25-20, 27-25) decision to host Lock Haven before claiming a 3-0 (25-14, 25-20, 25-19) victory over Molloy College to complete their weekend.

Junior setter Andrea Wirth (Mesa, Ariz./St. Mary's) led Stonehill with 15 assists, while classmate Laura Noonan (Hampstead, N.H./Bishop Guertin) posted a .556 hitting percentage as she finished with five kills on nine attacks without an error. Sophomore Laura Huselton (Penfield, N.Y./Penfield) and sophomore Michelle Thornhill (Canyon Lake, Calif./Temescal Canyon) each added five kills, while Thornhill and junior Justine Thompson (Merrimack, N.H./Bishop Guertin) both contributed 13 digs.

Stonehill served up nine aces in its victory over Molloy. Andrea Wirth dished 32 more assists to go with eight digs and two service aces for the Skyhawks. Laura Huselton contributed 11 kills and two aces, while junior Erin Johnson (Centerville, Mass./Barstable) posted ten kills. Laura Noonan totaled seven kills, while junior Anna Berthiaume (Somersworth, N.H./Somerswoth) finished with three blocks (two solo).

Stonehill (3-3, 0-0 NE-10) is back in action on Wednesday when it visits the University of Bridgeport for a non-conference matchup at 7 p.m. The Skyhawks first home match is scheduled for Saturday, September 26, when they host Saint Anselm College at 1 p.m.
