Encarnacao Anchors First-Place 4x400m Relay Team and Wins 400m Dash in Final Day of NEC Championships

STATEN ISLAND, N.Y. (February 19, 2024) – Senior Kaytlin Encarnacao (Reading, Mass.) won both the 400m dash and 4x400m relay as the women's track and field team completed the Northeast Conference Indoor Track and Field Championships at the Ocean Breeze Sports Complex.

Overall, the Skyhawks finished the two-day event with 81.2 points to place fifth while the Central Connecticut State secured first place with 125 points.

FIELD EVENTS

  • Sophomore Kaia Eder (Moorestown, N.J.) broke her own school record with a leap of 11.36m (37' 3.25") to place seventh in the triple jump.
  • Also setting a personal record in the triple jump was senior Cassidy Becker (North Attleboro, Mass.) who reached a mark of 11.10m (36' 5"), placing 10th overall.
  • Freshman Rachel Morin (Glocester, R.I.) joined four other jumpers in a tie for eighth place in the high, clearing a mark of 1.51m (4' 11.5").

TRACK EVENTS

  • Junior Madison Rousseau (Canton, Mass.) started day two of indoor championships by placing third in the 60m hurdles finals with a time of 8.95 seconds, scoring six points while matching her personal record she set a week ago at URI.
  • Encarnacao won the 400m dash, finishing in 56.88 seconds to secure 10 points toward the Skyhawks team score.
  • Sophomore Jordan Malloy (Colchester, Conn) placed third in the 1-mile race final, crossing the finish line in 4:56.48 to set a personal best time and score six points for Stonehill.
  • Fellow sophomore Emily Young (Newton, Mass.) came in ninth place in the mile run, finishing in 5:17.83.
  • Freshman Madison Stott (Dartmouth, Mass.) finished the 500m in 1:16.37 to set a new personal best and place second by just .05 seconds.
  • Sophomore Grace Tyrrell (Cavendish, Vt.) notched a fourth-place finish in the 500m dash, crossing the finish line soon after Stott in 1:19.17.
  • Junior Emma Lawrence (Milford, Mass.) came in second place in the 800m final, crossing the finish line in 2:17.16, scoring eight points for the Skyhawks.
  • Freshman Kellie Harrington (Pittsfield, Mass.) ran in the 5000m run, making her debut at NEC Indoor Championships, placing eighth overall with a personal best time of 18:21.58.

  • The team of Lawrence, sophomore Aneka Andrews (McLean, Va.), freshman Anna Casey (Medford, Mass.), and Malloy placed fourth in the 4000m distance medley relay with a time of 12:10.37.
  • The women closed out the conference championships with a win as the squad of Tyrrell, Stott, freshman Katie Gibbons (Pembroke, Mass.), and Encarnacao came in first place in the 4x400m relay race with a time of 3:54.64.
