Women's DMR seeded No. 2 heading into NCAA Division II Indoor Championships in Pittsburg, Kansas, this weekend

EASTON, Mass. (March 9, 2016) – Five student-athletes from the Northeast-10 Conference champion Stonehill College women's track & field program, ranked fourth in the most recent U.S. Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA) East Regional rankings, will represent the program at the 2016 NCAA Division II Indoor Track & Field Championships, hosted by Pittsburg State University and the Crawford County Convention and Visitors Bureau, at the Robert W. Plaster Center on the Pittsburg State campus on Friday and Saturday.
Admission to the Track & Field Championships is $10.00 per day for adults and $5.00 for students/children ages 3-18 with children under age two admitted free of charge. An all-session pass is also available for $15.00. Tickets may be purchased at the spectator entrance to the Plaster Center or purchased in advance at the Pittsburg State ticket office at (620) 235-4796 or online at www.pittstate.edu/tickets. Junior Nicole Borofski (Plymouth, Massachusetts/Plymouth North) will compete in two events at the Indoor Championships after earning second team All-America honors for the 3000-meter steeplechase at the 2015 NCAA Division II Outdoor Track & Field Championships last spring. Borofski, who along with classmate Aisha McAdams (North Kingstown, Rhode Island/North Kingstown), opted not to enter in the one mile run on Friday after provisionally qualifying with the ninth and 11th fastest times in Division II this winter.

The juniors will spearhead Stonehill's 4000-meter distance medley relay team which is seeded No. 2 for Friday night's final with a school-record time of 11:36.33 that captured the New England Championship at Boston University on February 26. McAdams will run the 1200-meter lead leg, while Borofski will run the one mile anchor for the Skyhawks who aim to avenge an 11th place finish at last year's NCAA Championships (11:47.00). Following McAdams on Friday night will be senior All-American Jordan Gray (Warwick, Rhode Island/Toll Gate) for the 400-meter leg and classmate Erin Carberry (Milton, Massachusetts/Thayer Academy) for the 800-meter leg, while junior Alexandra Buonfiglio (Lynnfield, Massachusetts/Lynnfield), who ran as part of a DMR which earned All-Northeast-10 Conference honors with a second place finish at the NE-10 Indoor Championships in February with a time of 12:22.15, will join the group in Kansas as an alternate.
Carberry is the only newcomer to the DMR which has qualified for the NCAA Championship three straight years from last year's relay. Gray, who was also a member of the DMR that finished ninth (11:54.08) at the 2014 Indoor Championships in Winston-Salem, North Carolina, was also part of Stonehill's 4x400-meter relay which earned All-America honors last winter with a sixth place finish (3:48.60) at the NCAA Championships in Birmingham, Alabama.
Borofski is competing at her third straight NCAA Division II Track & Field Championships, having also qualified for the second straight year in the 3000-meter run at the Indoor Championships to go with her performance in the steeplechase at the 2015 Outdoor Championships. She is seeded 17th for Saturday night's 3000-meter final with her program-record time of 9:41.75 at the BU Valentine Invitational on February 12. Her seed is exactly where she finished in the event last March while seeded 20th at the 2015 Indoor Championships in 10:03.92.
The women's DMR will compete in Friday night's final at 8:45 p.m. (EST), while Borofski will turn around and run the 3000-meter final on Saturday at 7:40 p.m.
The Stonehill women's track and field program captured its third straight Northeast-10 Indoor Championship last month and then followed that up with a program-best seventh place finish at the New England Championships a week later. Head coach Karen Boen earned East Region Coach of the Year honors from the USTFCCCA this week, marking the fourth time she has collected the honors for the women's indoor season and the 32nd Coach of the Year award in her combined 18 years in charge of the men's and women's cross country and track and field programs.
