Distance medley relay finishes first and provisionally qualifies for NCAAs with time of 11:44.22
KINGSTON, R.I. (February 6, 2016) – The Stonehill College Women's track & field program registered a fifth place finish at the URI Coaches Tribute Meet, hosted by the University of Rhode Island at Mackal Fieldhouse.
Stonehill's distance medley relay team of senior All-American Jordan Gray (Warwick, Rhode Island/Toll Gate), and juniors Nicole Borofski (Plymouth, Massachusetts/Plymouth North), Aisha McAdams (North Kingstown, Rhode Island/North Kingstown) and Alexandra Buonfiglio (Lynnfield, Massachusetts/Lynnfield) placed first with a time of 11:44.22. McAdams ran the 1200 in 3:29.00 seconds, followed by Gray who ran the 400 in 57.5 seconds. Buonfiglio completed the 800 in 2:20.02 seconds, before Borofski completed the 1600 in 4:55.21 seconds. The effort, which momentarily ranked as the fastest time in the nation, was good enough to meet the provisional qualifying standard for next month's NCAA Championships.
Senior Erin Carberry (Milton, Massachusetts/Thayer Academy) ran to a fifth place finish in the 800-meter run with a time of 2:17.94, the second fastest time ran in the NE-10 up to this point. Freshman Jillian Caiazzi (Marlborough, Massachusetts/Marlborough) also competed in the event, placing ninth overall in 2:22.49.
Freshman Olivia Dexter (East Calais, Vermont/U-32) posted a time of 7.89 seconds in the 60-meter dash, good for fifth overall, after qualifying with an 8.00-second effort in the prelims. Dexter also ran the fifth fastest time in the NE-10 with her performance in the event.
Competing in a field of 11 that consisted of seven Division I programs, Stonehill placed fifth today with 37 points. UMass Amherst won the meet with 168.5 points, followed by Brown University (140 points), host URI (117.5) and University of New Hampshire (79 points). Fellow Northeast-10 Conference members American International College and Franklin Pierce University finished eighth and tenth, respectively, with 20 and eight points.
Freshman Krista Fernandes (Taunton, Massachusetts/Coyle & Cassidy) collected an eighth place finish in the 500-meter run with a time of 1:20.00, while junior Megan Bobinski (Torrington, Connecticut/Holy Cross) completed the course in 1:23.43, good for 16th.
Freshmen Elizabeth Hannon (Franklin, Massachusetts/Bishop Feehan) and Adrienne Santoro (North Attleboro, Massachusetts/Bishop Feehan) placed 11th and 12th, respectively, in the one mile with times of 5:17.55 and 5:31.15.
Freshman Courtney Daggett (Attleboro, Massachusetts/Attleboro) placed second in the high jump with a height of 5-feet, 3.25-inches. Senior Stephanie Fitzgerald (Coventry, Rhode Island/Coventry) was seventh in the triple jump with a distance of 33-feet, 4.75-inches.
Sophomore Gaelin Farrell (Baldwinville, Massachusetts/Narragansett Regional) and senior Trisha Pierson (East Hanover, New Jersey/Hanover Park) both recorded top 10 finishes in the shot put. Farrell finished sixth with a distance of 40-feet, 3.5-inches, while Pierson finished ninth with a distance of 38-feet, 9.75-inches.
Stonehill will be back in action next Friday at the David Hemery Valentine Invitational, hosted by Boston University at the BU Track & Tennis Center in Boston, Massachusetts, at 1 p.m.
