EASTON, Mass. (October 10, 2009) - Stonehill College claimed a 3-2 victory against Saint Anselm College in a Northeast-10 Conference women's soccer action at Skyhawk Field today.

Junior Kirstie St. Martin (Providence R.I./Mount Saint Charles Academy) played a role in all three Stonehill goals, netting one and assisting on the other two as the Skyhawks notched their second-straight win. Junior Molly Mattern (Preston, Conn./Norwich Free Academy) and sophomore Kelsey Mahoney (Rehoboth, Mass./Dighton-Rehoboth) contributed to the win with a goal each.

Junior Jennifer Pearl (Stoughton, Mass./Stoughton) led Saint Anselm with a goal and assist, while sophomore Hillary Sanacore (Wakefield, R.I./South Kingston) added a goal.


Sophomore Kelsey Mahoney scored what proved to be the match-winner with her third goal of the season.

Sophomore Sarah Hickey (Lee, Mass./Lee) made six saves in goal to preserve the win for Stonehill. Junior Jacqueline Cooney (Braintree, Mass./Braintree) finished with seven stops for Saint Anselm. Stonehill recorded a 14-10 advantage in shots for the match, including an 8-5 margin in the second half.

The teams combined for three goals in the final eight minutes of the opening half. Sanacore opened the scoring with her second of the season off a feed from Pearl at 36:52. Stonehill answered less than four minutes later when Mattern headed in a cross from St. Martin at the 40:34 mark. St. Martin gave the Skyhawks the lead with just 2:23 left before the break when she knocked in a cross by sophomore Alexandra Murphy (Weymouth, Mass./Weymouth) for her team-leading tenth goal of the season.

Stonehill got an important insurance goal just past the hour mark when Mahoney took a pass from St. Martin and scored her third goal of the season with what would prove to be the match-winner at 60:08.Saint Anselm drew within one at 69:53 as Pearl netted her team-leading fifth goal, but the Hawks couldn't come up with an equalizer.

Stonehill (6-7-0, 4-6-0 NE-10) is back in action on Wednesday when it hosts Bentley University at 3:30 p.m. Saint Anselm (6-6-1, 5-5-0 NE-10) hosts Southern New Hampshire University on Wednesday at 4 p.m.
