WORCESTER, Mass. (October 20, 2009) - Stonehill College, ranked tenth in this week's National Soccer Coaches Association of America (NSCAA)/adidas Division II East Regional poll, ran its winning streak to five matches with a third-straight shutout in tonight's 3-0 victory over Assumption College in Northeast-10 Conference women's soccer action at Multi-Sport Field.

Sophomore goalkeeper Sarah Hickey (Lee, Mass./Lee) stopped all nine shots on goal she faced to post her third-straight shutout - running her scoreless streak to 288:19 - and fourth clean sheet of the season. Sophomore Kelsey Mahoney (Rehoboth, Mass./Dighton-Rehoboth) dished two assists for the Skyhawks, and while she had her goal scoring streak snapped at four-straight matches, she has now notched a point in six-straight contests.

Stonehill got goals from juniors Kirstie St. Martin (Providence, R.I./Mount Saint Charles Academy) and Michele Norton (Abington, Mass./Cardinal Spellman) and freshman Sara Nagle (Manchester, Conn./Manchester).

Sophomore Kelsey Mahoney ran her point streak to six-straight matches with her two assists tonight, giving her an NE-10 best nine for the year.

Junior Lauren Keating (Nashua, N.H./Nashua North) made seven saves in goal for Assumption, who registered a 15-14 edge in shots for the match.

St. Martin put Stonehill in front only 2:08 into the match when she broke past the Assumption defense in midfield and netted her team-leading 13th goal of the season. It marks the third-straight match the Skyhawks have earned an early advantage by scoring within the opening five minutes.

Stonehill doubled its lead just before halftime when Nagle got on the end of a Mahoney corner kick and scored her first collegiate goal at 44:21. Mahoney set up the Skyhawks final goal in the 79th minute as Norton knocked in a cross for her fourth goal of the year. Mahoney has now dished a Northeast-10 best nine assists this season.

The victory tonight moves Stonehill into fifth place in the Northeast-10 standings with two matches remaining. The Skyhawks sit just one point ahead of three teams and two points in front of ninth-place Assumption. The top eight teams earn a spot in the upcoming NE-10 Tournament. Stonehill holds an outside chance at moving up to fourth place and earning the right to host an NE-10 Quarterfinal match, sitting four points behind Merrimack College, but would need the Warriors to earn no more than a point in their remaining two matches while winning its final two contests.

Stonehill (9-7-0, 7-6-0 NE-10) returns home on Saturday to host Le Moyne College for Senior Day as part of Alumni Weekend at the College at 11 a.m. Assumption (6-8-1, 6-6-1 NE-10) hosts Franklin Pierce University on Saturday at 1 p.m.
