BOSTON HERALD: Stonehill's Megan Methven, '10, Named New Girls' Hoop Coach at Whitman-Hanson

Whitman-Hanson announced the appointment of Megan Methven as the girls varsity basketball coach.

Methven, who served as the Panthers varsity assistant the last two seasons, replaces Jim Daley who retired at the end of the season following a Hall of Fame career in which he guided Whitman-Hanson to 510 wins. Methven, who played college basketball at Stonehill College, is a math teacher at Whitman-Hanson.

"We are very excited to welcome Megan to the staff. She is so passionate about teaching and coaching and I know that her student-athletes will learn a lot from her, both on and off the court," Whitman-Hanson athletic director Bob Rodgers said. "The fact that she teaches in the building and gets to see our students everyday is a huge plus.

"Following Jim (Daley) would be a tough task for anyone, but since Megan has been in the program and understands the rich history of girls basketball here at the high school, I know that she is ready to carve out her own piece of history."

Methven finished her career at Stonehill as the program's career-leader for three-point field goals with 249, ranking ninth in program history for career three-point percentage at 35.1-percent. She also ranks seventh in program history for free-throw percentage at 77.7%. Methven drained 76 three-point field goals two seperate seasons, ranking second on Stonehill's single-season list, as a freshman and sophomore. She is also one of 25 players in program history with over 1,000 career points.

In addition to coaching basketball, Methven is also the girls varsity lacrosse coach at Whitman-Hanson.
