Stonehill Rallies In Game Two, Completes Doubleheader Sweep Of NYIT

Eisenmann extends hitting streak to 12 games, Skyhawks win fourth-straight

OLD WESTBURY, N.Y. (March 30, 2012) – Senior right-handed pitcher Samantha Krantz (Hampton Bays, N.Y./Hampton Bays) notched her fourth complete game of the season in game one and Stonehill scored six runs on six hits in the top of the seventh inning in game two to complete a doubleheader sweep of New York Institute of Technology (NYIT) in non-conference action on Friday afternoon at the NYIT Softball Complex.

Krantz, who now has 21-career complete games for the Skyhawks, improved to 6-0 overall on the season yielding six hits, one run (earned), one walk and two strikeouts.

Natasha Milosevich (Torrance, Calif./El Camino CC) was handed the loss on five innings pitched, eight hits, two runs (both earned), two walks and a game-high six strikeouts. Sophomore pitcher Makenzie Jones (Hyde Park, Utah/Hesston College) completed the final two innings allowing six hits, five runs (two earned), one walk and two punchouts.

Stonehill struck first in the top of the third inning as junior first baseman Nicole Eisenmann (East Bridgewater, Mass./East Bridgewater) singled up the middle, Kelsey Wilcox (Canterbury, Conn./Griswold) walked and sophomore designated player Lindsay McKillop (East Meadow, N.Y./East Meadow) drove in both runners with a double down the left field line for a 2-0 lead.

Eisenmann increased the gap to 4-0 in the top of sixth inning on a two-run single up the middle scoring junior left fielder Casey Remick (Norton, Mass./Norton) and sophomore second baseman Christina Swider (Hebron, Conn./RHAM).

In the seventh inning, Brianna Gunter (Amherst, N.H./Souhegan), Swider and senior shortstop Chelsea Stryker (Baldwin, N.Y./Kellenberg Memorial) all collected RBI singles to make it 7-0.

NYIT broke up the shutout bid in the bottom half of the frame as Jones led off the inning with a double to left center and eventually came around to score on a Sarah Stein (Bay Shore, N.Y./Bay Shore) run-producing single to centerfield.

Stonehill 7, NYIT 3

Senior Kellie Reardon (Burlington, Mass./Arlington Catholic) earned the win in relief tossing three-and-two-thirds innings, giving up two hits, no runs and two walks. Eisenmann landed the no-decision in her first start this season on three-and-one-thirds innings, six hits and three runs (all earned).

Milosevich picked up the loss in a complete game effort allowing 11 hits, seven runs (six earned), no walks and four strikeouts.

In the top of the seventh inning, Gunter reached on a fielding error and advanced to second base on the throw to jump start the rally. Remick singled to short and Swider reached base on a bunt single to load the bases. Stryker followed with a RBI groundout to second base to cut into the deficit at 3-2.

Marchand tied up the contest, 3-3, in the next at-bat with a bunt single, plating Remick for her seventh RBI of the season. Eisenmann gave the Skyhawks the lead for good with a run-producing single up the middle, McKillop pushed the advantage to 5-3 with a RBI single to left center and Reardon capped the rally with a two-run base knock to right centerfield.

Eisenmann, who extended her hitting streak to 12-straight games, went 4-for-4 with one run scored and two runs driven in to lead the offense. Marchand, batting second in the lineup, was 2-for-3 with one run scored and one RBI.

Stonehill (13-3, 6-2 NE-10) travels to Pace University tomorrow afternoon for a Northeast-10 Conference (NE-10) doubleheader with game one scheduled for noon. NYIT (5-15, 1-4 ECC) takes on Molloy in a doubleheader tomorrow, on the road, at 4 p.m.
