CLERMONT, Fla. (March 14, 2012) – Behind two complete game pitching performances from seniors Samantha Krantz (Hampton Bays, N.Y./Hampton Bays) and Kaitlin Andrews (Hudson, Mass./Hudson), the Stonehill College softball team swept its doubleheader against the University of Bridgeport, 7-1, and Nyack College, 5-2, on Wednesday afternoon at the National Training Center.

Stonehill 7, Bridgeport 1

Krantz pushed her record to 2-0 overall on the season in game one giving up just one run (earned) on five hits, no walks and a game-high six strikeouts.

Freshman Taylor Hendrickson (Binghampton, N.Y./Chenango Valley) suffered the loss on one hit, six runs (all earned) and six walks. Hendrickson faced seven batters total and did not record an out in her start for the University of Bridgeport (4-2).

Stonehill walked out to an early 2-0 advantage as Hendrickson issued five-straight free passes to start the contest to senior Chelsea Stryker (Norton, Mass./Norton), sophomore Christine Swider (Hebron, Conn./RHAM), junior Nicole Eisenmann (East Bridgewater, Mass./East Bridgewater), sophomore Lindsay McKillop (East Meadow, N.Y./East Meadow) and junior Kelsey Wilcox (Canterbury, Conn./Griswold).

Sophomore Angela Moskwa (West Suffield, Conn./Suffield) also notched a RBI single to highlight the Skyhawks six-run first inning.

In the seventh, the Skyhawks added another run as Wilcox smacked a triple and junior Kaitlin Miller (Derry, N.H./Pinkerton Academy) followed with a run-producing single.

The Purple Knights scratched home a run in the bottom half of the inning to cut into the deficit at 7-1 and breakup Stonehill's shutout bid. Freshman Morgan Dunn (Cohoes, N.Y./Cohoes) led off the frame with a single, junior Alitha Krolikowski (Bristol, Conn./Bristol Eastern) doubled and sophomore Gabbie Giaquinto (West Haven, Conn./West Haven) followed with a 5-3 groundout plating Dunn.

Stonehill 5, Nyack 2

Andrews also improved to 2-0 overall for the Skyhawks in the circle yielding two runs (one earned), on three hits, no walks, one hit-by-pitch and three strikeouts. Andrews faced the minimum, 18 batters, through her first six innings pitched. Andrews retired the first nine batters she faced before her string was broken up with a hit-by-pitch. The Skyhawks defense immediately erased the Purple Knights baserunner with a successful pickoff (2-4) and Andrews followed that up by sitting down the next eight batters she faced all in-a-row.

Freshman Chelsea Macaluso (Charlotte, N.C.) was handed the loss over seven innings of work giving up five runs (one earned), seven hits, no walks, one hit-by-pitch and two punchouts.

Scoreless through the first three innings of play, Eisenmann gave Stonehill a 1-0 lead with a solo home run to left centerfield, her first of the season, in the bottom of the fourth.

The Skyhawks added four more runs in the fifth inning as junior Courtney Marchand (Raymond, N.H./Timberlane Regional) ripped a RBI single and Eisenmann delivered a bases clearing double to cap the scoring and push the advantage to 5-0.

Nyack made it 5-2 in the top of the seventh inning on a Macaluso RBI single and a fielding error.
