Burnett Named NEC Player of the Week

EASTON, Mass. (November 21, 2022) – Stonehill College fifth-year guard Isaiah Burnett has been named the Northeast Conference (NEC) Player of the Week in men's basketball the Conference office announced today.

It marks the second-straight week to open the season a member of the Stonehill men's basketball program has earned the recognition after fellow fifth-year Andrew Sims collected the honor last Monday. Burnett earns the first weekly award of his career, and has been named an NEC Prime Performer for the second-straight week, after averaging 20 points per game on 64.7-percent shooting (11-for-17), draining both three-point attempts, converting 16-of-19 (84.2%) of his free-throws in a 1-1 week for the Skyhawks. He also contributed 3.5 rebounds, 2.0 assists, 2.5 steals and a blocked shot in 29.6-minutes per game.

Burnett scored a career-high 30 points on 7-of-9 shooting, converting 15-of-17 free-throws, in Saturday night's 81-79 victory over College of the Holy Cross, adding three rebounds, four steals and a blocked shot. He opened the week with ten points on 4-of-8 shooting, four rebounds, four assists, a blocked shot and steal at Providence College on Tuesday. He has now scored in double-figures all five games for Stonehill this season and seven-straight games dating back to last winter.

Burnett has taken over the team scoring lead and ranks fourth among NEC leaders with 16.6 points per game, ranking third in the Conference with a .605 field goal percentage, while his .778 (28-for-36) free-throw percentage ranks eighth. Burnett leads the NEC with his 2.6 steals per game, while adding 4.0 rebounds in 27.7 minutes per game.

Burnett, a transfer from the United State Naval Academy prior to the 2019-20 season, has started 25 of his 28 games played over the last two years at Stonehill. He has averaged 13.0 points, 4.3 rebounds, 2.9 assists and 2.3 steals in 31.0 minutes per game over his Skyhawks career. He has scored 404 points in 53 career collegiate games, including his time at the Naval Academy, with 152 rebounds, 102 assists, 75 steals and 26 blocked shots. Burnett is a 44.9-percent shooter over his career, including 47.7% over two seasons at Stonehill, shooting 63.9% from the free-throw line. He has scored in double-figures in 20 games over his collegiate career, with 20-plus points four times, and recorded three-plus steals in nine career games.

Stonehill (2-3, 0-0 NEC) is in action this evening for day two of the Tom Konchalski Classic, hosted by Fordham University, when it faces the University of Illinois-Chicago at 4 p.m. The Skyhawks face host Fordham tomorrow at 7 p.m., in a game that will be broadcast live on ESPN3 and SNY. Stonehill's next home games is Wednesday, November 30, when it hosts Eastern Nazarene College at Merkert Gymnasium at 7 p.m.
