Barrett Leads Pack Of Runners As Women's Cross Country Gears Up For Defense Of Northeast-10 Title With Third Place Team Finish At Williams Plansky Invitational

WILLIAMSTOWN, Mass.-- Both Stonehill cross country teams tuned up for defense of their respective Northeast-10 Conference championships with solid performances Saturday afternoon at the Williams Plansky Invitational, as the Skyhawk men placed second and the Stonehill women finished third on the day.

Sophomore Dickie Gerry (Bow, N.H.) paced the 13th-ranked Skyhawk men’s squad by placing sixth over the 3.7 mile layout in a time of 20:10, as both sophomore David Metzger (Ellington, Conn.) and senior T.J. Smith (East Bridgewater, Mass.) posted the same time in finishing seventh and eighth, respectively. Sophomores Joe Ryan (Chelmsford, Mass.) and Khalid Abid (Brockton, Mass.) were next in ninth and 10th place, respectively, as each runner posted a time of 20:11.

On the women’s side, sophomore Meghan Barrett (Norfolk, Mass.) led the way with a time of 15:58 over the 2.5 mile layout good for 21st place, while senior Erin Smith (Brockton) and junior Lauren Eynatian (Chelmsford, Mass.) followed in 23rd and 24th place, respectively, with times of 16:01 each. Senior Kaitlin Buckley (North Kingstown, R.I.) was next in 27th place for Stonehill with a time of 16:03, while freshman Jackie Oates (South Easton, Mass.) rounded out the Skyhawk scoring by placing 30th with a time of 16:23.

Host Williams captured top team honors in both races, while Tufts finished second on the women’s side.

Stonehill will head to Smithfield, R.I. as the defending conference champion in both races next Sunday afternoon, as the 2005 Northeast-10 Championships will be hosted by Bryant University. The men’s race will begin at 10:00 a.m., while the Skyhawk women will seek their sixth straight conference crown at 11:00 a.m.
