Lauren Amundson recently completed her sixth season as head coach of the Stonehill volleyball program.

Amundson has led Stonehill through its most successful run in program history over her six seasons at the helm. She has posted a record of 110-68 (.618), becoming the winningest coach in program history, with a 61-27 (.693) mark in Northeast-10 play. The Skyhawks earned the first two NCAA Tournament bids in program history under her guidance, winning a share of its first Northeast-10 Conference regular season championship in 2014. Stonehill earned its first NCAA Tournament bid in 2011, with its second bid coming this past fall.

Amundson has produced the first two honorable mention All-Americans in program history with senior setter Emily Iverson and junior outside hitter Delia Phillips earning the honors from the American Volleyball Coaches Association (AVCA) following the 2014 season in which Stonehill posted its second 20-win season in program history – both of which have come under Amundson’s leadership. She has coached five AVCA All-East Region selections (the first five in program history), as well as an honorable mention All-Region pick, 14 All-Northeast-10 selections and four NE-10 All-Rookie Team honorees. Iverson, the 2011 NE-10 Rookie of the Year, would cap her career as the first NE-10 Player of the Year in program history, while also collecting Setter of the Year honors.

Amundson’s student-athletes have also performed in the classroom and become a vital part of the campus community at Stonehill over the last six years. The Skyhawks earned the AVCA Team Academic Award in 2011 and have produced six Northeast-10 Academic All-Conference honorees with over 60-percent of the team earning Athletic Director’s Honor Roll status at the College for having a semester grade point average of 3.20 or higher.

Amundson started the “Ace’s Girls” program at Stonehill in 2012, a free eight week program that has run every spring semester, which mentors, educates and empowers young girls in topics of both physical and mental well-being, while introducing them to fundamental volleyball skills. The volleyball team earned the inaugural “Cindy Mac” Team Spirit Award at the conclusion of the 2013-14 academic year as voted on by their fellow student-athletes at the College for being the most dedicated and supportive fans of the 20 intercollegiate varsity programs. The team has also been active with “Be the Match,” the James Wright 5K, National Girls & Women in Sports Day, the Special Olympics as well as Team IMPACT, welcoming seven-year-old Eva Fox (and her twin sister Grace) to the team this past fall.

Amundson has been recognized by her peers by earning Coach of the Year honors from the Northeast-10 in 2011 when she led Stonehill to a program record 27-7 mark overall, including a 14-1 clip in the Northeast-10. She has been named to the AVCA’s “Thirty under 30” list in 2011 and 2012, which recognizes emerging coaching talent at all levels of volleyball.

Amundson has been active as the Northeast-10’s representative to the AVCA Division II Head Coaches Committee, the NCAA East Region Awards Committee and the Northeast-10 Volleyball Coaches Chair.

In 2014, Amundson led the Skyhawks to their second NCAA Tournament appearance in program history and a share of the team's first ever regular season Northeast-10 Conference Championship. Stonehill finished 21-8 overall and 11-3 in conference play, the second best league record in program history. Amundson coached Stonehill's first ever NE-10 Player of the Year in Iverson, while she and Phillips were named honorable mention All-Americans by the American Volleyball Coaches Association. The sixth-year coach also reached a personal milestone in 2014, earning her 100th career victory on September 30th as the Skyhawks defeated Southern New Hampshire, 3-1.

Amundson guided the Skyhawks to their fourth consecutive Northeast-10 Championship appearance in 2013, as Stonehill earned the sixth seed in the conference tournament after finishing 9-5 in the NE-10 and 18-14 overall. Stonehill pulled off an improbable comeback in quarterfinal round against second-seeded Bentley, as the Skyhawks fought off a 2-0 set deficit and two match points in the fourth set before emerging with a 3-2 victory.

At the conclusion of the season, four of Amundson's student-athletes earned spots on the Northeast-10 All-Conference teams, led by sophomore Delia Phillips, who landed on the first team. Senior captain Kirsten Arvidson earned a spot on the second team, and junior setter Emily Iverson earned third team honors, while freshman Taylor Stevens was named to the All-Rookie team. Phillips was also named to the AVCA All-East Region Team, becoming the third student-athlete in Stonehill volleyball history to earn the honor.

2012 marked the third consecutive season that Amundson guided the Skyhawks to the Northeast-10 Tournament. Stonehill started the season off strong, winning six of its first nine matches (including a four-match winning streak in mid-September), before finishing with a 13-15 record. The Skyhawks ended up at 7-8 in the Northeast-10, earning the eighth seed in the NE-10 Championship, before losing in the first round to eventual champion New Haven.

Amundson led the Skyhawks to a banner year in 2011 guiding Stonehill to its first-ever appearance in the NCAA Tournament. The Skyhawks also tied the program record for most wins in a season with a 27-7 record overall and made their second-consecutive appearance in the NE-10 Tournament semifinals as the second seed, their highest seed since 1996 (27-8 overall). For her efforts, Amundson was named the Northeast-10 Conference (NE-10) Coach of the Year for the first time in her three-year career. Stonehill also posted a 14-1 mark in NE-10 play, a new program record, while landing a program best four players on the NE-10 All-Conference Teams. Emily Iverson earned Rookie of the Year honors, first team accolades and an All-Rookie Team selection. Sydney Maxey garnered first team honors while Erin Kelly was selected to the second team and Kirsten Arvidson was chosen to the third team. In the NE-10, Stonehill finished the 2011 season ranked first in kills per set and hitting percentage, second in assists per set and digs per set and third in service aces per set. The Skyhawks also ranked 68th among all NCAA Division II teams in kills per set and 53rd in hitting percentage. Iverson finished her freshman campaign 36th overall in Division II in assists per set and fourth among all freshman at a 10.46 clip while Kelly ranked 14th overall in aces per set at 0.59.

In 2010, Amundson was named to the American Volleyball Coaches Association (AVCA) "Thirty Under 30" List. Established in 2009, the award honors emerging coaching talent younger than 30 years old at all levels of volleyball. Last fall under Amundson, Stonehill advanced to the semifinal round of the Northeast-10 Conference championship after posting an 11-4 record in conference play, the program’s best in more than a decade. The 2010 season marked the first time in 15 years that the Skyhawks have had a first-team All-Conference honoree, and also placed two players on the All-Conference squad in the same season.

In her first year at the helm, she led the Skyhawks to a 15-11 overall record, finishing in a five-way tie for fifth place in the Northeast-10.

A former assistant coach at Bryant University, Amundson spent two seasons with the Bulldogs as the program transitioned to Division I, helping guide them to a combined 48-32 mark. In her first year with the team, Bryant's last in Division II, the Bulldogs went 32-13, finished a perfect 14-0 in the Northeast-10, and reached the NCAA Regional Championship.

Prior to Bryant, Amundson had a standout four-year career as a record-setting setter at Christian Brothers University in Memphis, Tenn. There, she owns four single-season and career records, including the Buccaneers' career assists mark (5,506). She also holds the school's single-season assists record, with 1,552 during her junior year, breaking the mark of 1,390 she set as a freshman in 2003.

Amundson also has coaching experience at the club level, spending two years with the Memphis Juniors and Memphis Metro, and two with the Rhode Island Blast.

A 2007 magna cum laude graduate of Christian Brothers University with a Bachelor's Degree in business administration, Amundson received her Master's of Business Adminstration from Bryant in the summer of 2009.

Amundson is an active member of the American Volleyball Coaches Association (AVCA) and a graduate of the NCAA Women Coaches Academy (Denver, 2012). Amundson is also a Charter Member of The Aliance of Women Coaches and is currently serving as the NE-10 representative on the AVCA Head Coaches Committee.
