Skyhawks Improve to 8-3 With 2-2 Weekend

Easton, Mass. – The Skyhawks split their
matches on Saturday and Sunday to bring their record to 8-3 on the
season.
Stonehill started off strong in their first match against
Bridgeport, winning the first set 25-20 before dropping the last
three 16-25, 20-25 and 22-25. The Skyhawks were plagued by poor
hitting, recording an attack percentage of .144 and ten service
errors.
Freshman Laura Huselton (Penfield, N.Y.) provided
the lone bright spot, tying for the team lead with 11 kills on 22
attempts with no errors for a .500 attack percentage.
The Skyhawks rebounded Saturday evening, sweeping Caldwell in three
sets, 25-13, 25-15, 25-14.
Sophomore Erin Johnson (Centerville, Mass.) led
the team with 11 kills with an attack percentage of .588 while
freshman Anna Barczak (Ridgefield, Conn.) had an
impressive college debut with seven kills. Hustelton continued her
solid play as well, with six kills and a .338 attack
percentage.
On Sunday, the Skyhawks defeated the University of the Sciences in
Philadelphia 3-1 in their early match. Stonehill won their first
two sets 25-18 and 25-13 before dropping the third 19-25. They
would rebound however, taking the last set 26-24.
Johnson hit .500 with nine kills for the Skyhawks, while sophomore
Andrea Wirth (Mesa, Ariz.) led the team with 31
assists. Senior Katherine Masson (Acushnet, Mass.)
added 12 kills and five of the team’s 16 aces in the
match.
In the second match of the day Stonehill lost in straight sets to
host Le Moyne, falling 21-25, 21-25 and 20-25.
Laura Noonan (Hampstead, N.H.) was a bright spot
for the Skyhawks, with six kills in six attempts for a 1.000 attack
percentage. Andrea Wirth was also good for Stonehill, with 21
assists and 11 digs in the match.
The 2-2 weekend brings the Skyhawks to 8-3 on the season. Stonehill
next travels to Lowell on Wednesday to take on UMass-Lowell at 7:00
pm.
