Wirth and Thornhill Named Setter and Freshman Of The Week

Easton, Mass. - In a 2-0 week for the Skyhawks, sophomore Andrea Wirth (Mesa, Ariz.) was named the Northeast-10 Setter of the Week and Michelle Thornhill (Canyon Lake, Calif.) was named NE-10 Freshman of the Week as announced by the conference on Monday.

Wirth had 104 assists in two matches last week, averaging 13.00 assists per set while also adding 3.75 digs per set as she helped the Skyhawks to their first 20 win season since 1997. It is the second time in three weeks and the third time overall that Wirth has been named Setter of the Week.

Thornhill was a two way force for Stonehill, averaging 4.63 kills per set and 3.25 digs per set.  The freshman also matched a career high with 20 kills in a four set win over Franklin Pierce, which clinched the Skyhawks first playoff berth since 2004. Thornhill has recorded at least 15 kills in each of the last four matches and this is the fourth time she has won Freshman of the Week honors.

Sophomore Therese Mance (Milwaukee, Wis.) was named to the NE-10 honor roll for the fourth straight week after her play in Stonehill's two matches.  She averaged 3.75 digs per set, including 21 in the tournament clinching victory over Franklin Pierce.

The Skyhawks return to action as the fourth seed in the NE-10 tournament when they take on AIC at 5 p.m. on Friday, November 14.
