Skyhawks Open Season With 3-0 Win
Kutztown, Pa. - Behind seven kills apiece from freshman Michelle Thornhill (Canyon Lake, Calif.) and sophomore Laura Noonan (Hampstead, N.H.), Stonehill opened their 2008 season in winning fashion, defeating Virginia State, 3-0 in the first match for both teams at the Kutztown Classic.
Stonehill, which also got 16 assists from sophomore setter Andrea Wirth (Mesa, Ariz.), rolled by game scores of 25-11, 25-18 and 25-11 in dispatching the Trojans. Virginia State was paced by Jasmine Davis' four kills and five block assists.
Sophomore Erin Johnson (Centreville, Mass.) chipped in with six kills, while senior Katherine Masson (Acushnet, Mass.) added four kills and a match-high seven service aces.
Stonehill returns to action on Saturday with a pair of matches against Mercy (12 noon) and host Kutztown (4:30 p.m.).
