Easton, Mass. - The Skyhawks were led by the play of freshman Michelle Thornhill (Canyon Lake, Calif.) and timely defense as they grounded the Owls of Southern Connecticut State in three sets on Wednesday night in Merkert Gymnasium.

Stonehill gave up the first point of the set, but wouldn't trail again as scored the next four points on their way to 25-14 first set victory.

The Skyhawks asserted their strong outside hitting in the second set as Thornhill and senior Katherine Masson (Acushnet, Mass.) combined for nine kills in the set as the team hit a match high .375 on their way to a 25-17 win.

Southern Connecticut State was determined not to go quietly as they jumped out to a 9-3 lead before Stonehill called a timeout to regroup.

The Skyhawks responded scoring the next five points, using great defense in addition to three kills from freshman Anna Barczak (Ridgefield, Conn.) and two more from Masson.

Stonehill continued to chip away at the lead, finally knotting the set up at 12 and then outscoring the Owls 13-6 the rest of the way to win the final set 25-18.

Thornhill had her fourth consecutive match with double digit kills, as she led the Skyhawks with 15 kills and 12 digs.  Masson meanwhile, hit over .300 for the fourth straight match with her .393 attack percentage to go along with 12 kills and two service aces.

Sophomore Andrea Wirth (Mesa, Ariz.) had 39 assists and seven digs for Stonehill, while Therese Mance (Milwaukee, Wis.) led the defensive charge with 18 digs.

With the win the Skyhawks improve to 17-10 and 5-6 in NE-10 play as they return to action on Saturday when they host American International on Saturday at 1:00 pm.
