Volleyball Claims Their Third Straight Win With a 3-2 Comeback

Easton, Mass. - In true under dog style the Skyhawks rallied, down two games to none, to defeat the UMass-Lowell River Hawks, 3-2.  The win improves their overall record to 9-18, 4-7 in the Northeast-10 Conference.  More importantly, the win marks the teams' third straight victory as the season comes to a close.

UMass-Lowell came out quick and took early leads in the first two games.  Aggressive play from sophomores Elsa LeGrand, Nicole Rondeau, and incredible serving from Allie Eide grounded the Skyhawk squad early.

Both hard fought matches would end in UMass-Lowell's favor, the first 30-27 and the second 30-28.

Stonehill played like an entirely different team after falling behind 0-2.  The Skyhawks came out firing in game three.  They opened up a seven point lead, led by Katherine Masson (Acushnet, Mass.) who had 19 kills on the day.  UMass-Lowell's Eide was able to bring the score close, however the Skyhawks escaped with the 30-28 win.

Stonehill misfires set the tone for the beginning of game four.  The two teams traded side-outs to a 12-12 score.  Freshman Andrea Wirth (Mesa, Ariz.) served six straight points to give the Skyhawks an 18-12 lead. Wirth also finished the day with 50 assists.  The momentum pulled Stonehill away, eventually winning 30-24 to tie the match at 2-2.

Masson, Erin Johnson (Centerville, Mass.), and Laura Noonan (Hampstead, N.H.) took their game to another level in game five.  Johnson finished her day with 11 kills and three blocks.  Noonan registered nine kills and six blocks. The three completed a superb come back victory over River Hawks, who fall to 11-17, 6-5 NE-10.

Volleyball will hit the road Friday for an NE-10 match up with Pace.  They will return home Tuesday, October 30th to take on Bentley at 7:00pm
