Alexander Announces Retirement As Stonehill's Head Volleyball Coach, Guided Skyhawks To First Post Season Berth In Eight Years During Five Year Tenure

October 26, 2006

Easton, Mass.-- Brad Alexander, who has served for the past five seasons as Head Volleyball Coach at Stonehill College, announced his retirement from the position and from collegiate head coaching, effective at the end of the 2006 season. Alexander's announcement was confirmed earlier today by Paula J. Sullivan, Stonehill's Director of Athletics.

"I've been coaching a long time, and as much as I enjoy teaching and being around the game, I've come to the point in my life where I would like to spend more time with my family," Alexander says of his decision. "Coaching at the collegiate level has provided so many wonderful memories, and I am grateful to Paula Sullivan, (Stonehill President) Father Mark Cregan, C.S.C. and the entire staff at Stonehill for making these past five years a tremendous experience."

A native of Walpole, Mass., Alexander came to Stonehill in the winter of 2002 after highly successful stints at Framingham State and Mount Ida, where he had compiled a 71-31 mark in four combined seasons at each institution while garnering MASCAC and North Atlantic Conference Coach of the Year accolades along the way. He quickly turned the Skyhawk fortunes around in just three seasons, as Stonehill finished seventh in the always-rugged Northeast-10 Conference standings in 2004 with an even 7-7 mark after being picked for next-to-last in the league's pre-season coaches poll. Alexander guided the Skyhawks to their first Northeast-10 playoff appearance in eight seasons in the process, as Stonehill posted its highest single-season win total in seven years as well. Brad collected his 100th career collegiate victory on September 16th when the Skyhawks posted a 3-1 triumph over Molloy.

"Brad has worked tirelessly on behalf of his student-athletes during his time at Stonehill, as he has represented his program and our department with great class and professionalism throughout his career," Sullivan says of Alexander. "While we at Stonehill are sorry to be losing someone of Brad's character and experience, I completely understand and support his decision, and I want to wish him, his wife Mary and his entire family the very best in his retirement."

Alexander's squad has three matches remaining on the 2006 schedule, including a pair of Northeast-10 home matches this weekend against Pace (Friday, October 27th) and Southern Connecticut (Saturday, October 28th) at Merkert Gymnasium. Alexander's final collegiate match will come on Tuesday, October 31st when Stonehill travels to Waltham, Mass. to take on rival Bentley in a Northeast-10 contest that begins at 7:30 p.m. EST.

Sullivan stated that a search for Alexander's replacement will begin immediately following the conclusion of the 2006 season.
