Blanco Records 28 Kills, Kilmain Adds 54 Set Assists As Volleyball Falls To LIU-C.W. Post, New York Tech In Non-League Tri-Match

WALTHAM, Mass.-- The Stonehill volleyball team dropped a non-league tri-match with both LIU-C.W. Post and New York Tech on Saturday afternoon, as the Skyhawks fell in the opener by a 3-2 final to the Pioneers before dropping a 3-1 decision to the Lady Bears in contests played at Bentley’s Dana Center.

Senior Doree Blanco (Warwick, R.I.) registered 14 kills and five blocks in the setback to LIU-C.W. Post, which came by game scores of 27-30, 30-23, 28-30, 30-21 and 15-7, while senior Kathleen Riley (Melrose, Mass.) added eight kills and fellow senior Liane Kilmain (Mattapoisett, Mass.) recorded 35 set assists for Stonehill, which held a 2-1 lead only to see the Pioneers come back for the second time in a five-game match this season between the two schools.

Blanco also notched 14 kills in the Skyhawks’ setback to New York Tech, which came by game scores of 30-16, 30-24, 19-30 and 30-23. Riley added eight kills as well for Stonehill, which also received six kills each from sophomore Rebekah Saunders (Gilford, N.H.) and freshman Katherine Masson (Acushnet, Mass.) and a combined 30 set assists from Kilmain and sophomore Sara Thompson (Millis, Mass.).

Stonehill, now 3-12 overall on the season, hosts Saint Anselm in a Northeast-10 Conference match on Thursday evening at Merkert Gymnasium beginning at 7:00 p.m.
