Miller sets School Record at Valentine Invitational

Freshman Kelly O'Toole qualified for the New England Championships

Boston, Mass. – Women’s Track and Field took center stage Friday evening during the first day of Boston University’s Valentine Invitational.  Again, it was the freshmen runners, Kelly O’Toole (Nashua, N.H./Nashua South) and Angela Miller (Brockton, Mass./Brockton), who provided some of the best performances for the young Skyhawks team.  Junior Jenny Gardynski (Everett, Mass/Everett) also finished strong for the women, as well.

Miller started the Skyhawks’ day with a 59th place finish in the 200 Meter Run.  Miller’s 26.53 time is a new personal best for the freshman, who ran 26.72 at the Reggie Lewis Center on January 25th.  The 26.53 mark sets a new Stonehill College record in the 200 Meter Run.

O’Toole and Gardynski finished within seconds of one-another in the 5000 Meter Run.  O’Toole’s 17:51.52 time was one of the highest freshman finishes. Kelly finished 21st in the event.  Not to be outdone, Gardynski claimed the 29th spot in 18:06.65.  The two provided the highest finishes for the Skyhawks on day one.

O'Toole's 17:51.52 missed qualifying for the NCAA National Championships but just one second.   She did, however, qualify for the New England Championships along with Gardynski.

Katrina Harkins (Derry, N.H./Central Catholic) nearly improved on her personal record in the 55 Meter Hurdles.  In the preliminary round she finished in 9.32, just moments off her 9.13 finish at the Tufts Stampede last week.

The Track and Field teams will return to action today for the second day of BU’s Valentine Invitational.
