DeIngenis Captures 1,500 Meters For Women's Outdoor Track And Field At Northeastern Snowflake Classic

DEDHAM, Mass.-- Both Stonehill outdoor track and field teams opened their respective seasons on Saturday afternoon with solid performances at the Northeastern Snowflake Classic at Solomon Track.

Junior Derek Hebert (Rockland, Mass.) shined in competition on the men's side for the Skyhawks, as he finished second in both the 400 meters (50 seconds even) and long jump (20 feet, 1 ½ inches) while running on the victorious 4 X 100 relay and second in the 4 X 400 relay.

Sophomore Dickie Gerry (Bow, N.H.) took top honors in the 800 meters with a time of 1:58, while sophomores Keith Gill (Brockton, Mass.) and Joe Ryan (Chelmsford, Mass.) finished second and third, respectively, in the 1,500 meters with times of 4:05 and 4:06. Junior Dana Burbank (North Andover, Mass.) won the high jump with a mark of 6 feet, 2 inches, while freshman Chris Palmer (Fort Worth, Tex.) set a school record in the triple jump with a mark of 43 feet, 2 ¾ inches.

The 4 X 100 relay team of Hebert, senior Paul Viggiano (Trumbull, Conn.), junior Vinnie Williams (Springfield, Mass.) and freshman Torrey Price (Sleepy Hollow, N.Y.) won with a time of 43.03, while Hebert, Viggiano, Gerry and junior Brandon Beloin (Danielson, Conn.) placed second in the 4 X 400 with a time of 3:30.

On the women's side, junior Dana DeIngenis (Cranston, R.I.) took top honors in the 1,500 meters for Stonehill with a time of 4:48, while junior Colleen Burbank (Dedham, Mass.) was third in the triple jump with a mark of 32 feet, 7 inches.

Both Skyhawk squads return to action next Saturday morning at the Southern Connecticut Invitational in New Haven, Conn. beginning at 10:00 a.m.
