Smith Provisionally Qualifies For NCAA Indoor Track Championships With Solid Performance In Women's 5000 Meters At Boston University Invitational

BOSTON, Mass.-- Three members of the Stonehill indoor track and field teams qualified provisionally for the upcoming NCAA Division II national championships in competition over the weekend at the Boston University Invitational.

Sophomores David Metzger (Ellington, Conn.) and Dickie Gerry (Bow, N.H.) qualified for the NCAA national championships, which will be co-hosted by Stonehill and the Reggie Lewis Center on March 10th and 11th, in the 5,000 meters and mile, respectively, as Metzger posted a time of 14:43.94 and Gerry ran a time of 4:14.67. Senior Erin Smith (Brockton, Mass.) also qualified on the women's side for the Skyhawks in the 5,000 meters with a time of 17:49.39, as she also qualified for the all-New England Championships in the process.

Juniors Vinnie Williams (Springfield, Mass.) and Derek Hebert (Rockland, Mass.) set school records in the men's 200 and 400 meters, respectively, as Williams posted a time of 22.03 in the 200 while Hebert ran a time of 50.01 in the 400. The Skyhawk men's 4 X 400 relay squad also set a school record in the event with a time of 3:24.07.

Junior Dana DeIngenis (Cranston, R.I.) qualified for the all-New England Championships in the women's mile as well for Stonehill, as she ran the second fastest time in school history with a mark of 5:06.

Both Skyhawk squads return to action next Saturday afternoon by heading to Medford, Mass. to compete in the Tufts Invitational that begins at 10:00 a.m.
