Easton, Mass. - The Skyhawks were unable to overcome two early goals on their way to a 3-1 loss at the hands of Southern Connecticut on Wednesday.

The Owls got on the board at the 9:31 mark when Hailey Huntington trapped a Brittany Tartara (Bardonia, N.Y.) goal kick just outside the 18, took two dribbles and then fired a shot past keeper Melissa Bramwell (Norton, Mass.) for the her fourth goal on the season.

Just three and a half minutes later Owl Jenna Malico was fouled inside the box.  Nicole Burton scored on the ensuing penalty kick to Southern Connecticut a 2-0 lead.

The Skyhawks managed two more shots the rest of the period but came away empty and went into the half down two goals.

Stonehill came out with intensity in the second half, pressuring the Owl defense and getting a corner less than a minute into the period.

They wouldn't capitalize and Southern Connecticut took advantage in the 52nd minute, as Hailey Huntington crossed the ball to Caitlin Cook who fired a one-timer past Bramwell for a three goal lead.

The Skyhawks responded less than 30 seconds later, as Alexandra Murphy (Weymouth, Mass.) dribbled by two Owl defenders and ripped a shot from the middle of the 18 to cut the lead to 3-1 at the 52:45 mark.

Stonehill continued to pressure Southern Connecticut throughout the rest of the half, taking three corner kicks and firing three shots at keeper Katie DiDio, but she denied the Skyhawks each time.

Bramwell had one save in goal for Stonehill who drops to 4-9-1 overall, and 3-6-1 in NE-10 play.

The Skyhawks return to action on Saturday when they play host to St. Rose with game time set for 2:00 pm.
