EASTON, Mass.-- Junior Jocelyn Savastano (Plymouth, Mass.) netted a pair of goals, including the game-winner in the 56th minute of play, and added an assist for a five-point effort in leading Saint Anselm to a 3-2 Northeast-10 Conference women’s soccer victory over Stonehill Tuesday afternoon.
Senior Emily Lapworth (Milton, Mass.) gave the visiting Hawks (5-3-1, 2-3-1 Northeast-10) a 1-0 advantage at the break when she converted a Savastano feed in the 30th minute of play, and Savastano extended Saint Anselm’s edge to 2-0 just two minutes into the second half when she took a pass from Lapworth. Sophomore Lauren Boyd (Sandwich, Mass.) sliced the host Skyhawks deficit to 2-1 just later when she converted a feed from fellow sophomore Ashley Bourne (Brockton, Mass.), but Savastano answered just 4:03 later with an unassisted tally that proved to be the game-winner, as Boyd’s second marker of the contest on assists from senior Kate McCarthy (North Easton, Mass.) and sophomore Hilary Eckhardt (Marshfield, Mass.) in the 68th minute enabled Stonehill to close again to within one, but the Skyhawks could get no closer.
Junior Ashley Capachione (Whitman, Mass.) picked up the win in goal for Saint Anselm with an eight-save effort, while sophomore Alex Eckhardt (Marshfield, Mass.) made six stops in 75-plus minutes in net for Stonehill and freshman Marissa Bramwell (Norton, Mass.) made two saves in the Skyhawk cage over the final 14:44 of play as Stonehill outshot the Hawks by a 20-17 margin for the match.
Stonehill hosts rival Bentley in a Northeast-10 outing on Saturday afternoon at Skyhawk Field beginning at 1:00 p.m., while Saint Anselm travels to Worcester, Mass. to take on third-ranked Assumption in a Northeast-10 match that begins at 4:00 p.m.
