Skyhawks Land First on NE-10 Preseason Poll

Full Release

Easton, Mass. - Eight first place votes and 118 points for the reigning Northeast-10 Regular Season and Tournament Champions have propelled the Stonehill Skyhawks' Women's Lacrosse team to first in the Conference's Preseason Poll released today.

First year head coach Katie Lambert inherits a team aiming for their tenth straight Regular season crown and ninth consecutive Conference title - a streak started during the head coach's freshman year with the Purple and White in 2000.

The Skyhawks are returning three seniors, including the 2007 Northeast-10 Player of the Year, Kristin Darrell (West Islip, N.Y./West Islip).  Darrell led the Skyhawks with 61 goals scored in 18 games played last season.  Kristin's career total for goals scored (188), assists (55) and total points (243) are within striking distance of the College's top spot.

Goaltender Amanda McGeachey (Saco, Maine/Thornton Academy) will carry the load for the Skyhawks for the second consecutive season. McGeachey, who appeared in nine games prior to 2007, logged 1236:11 minutes on her way to an 18-2 season.

Junior midfielder Michelle Kelly (Mendham, N.J./West Morris Mendham) will look to improve upon her All-America award winning season. Kelly, the 2007 Northeast-10 Defensive Player of the Year, showcased her unique athleticism on both sides of the field - controlling 45 draws and causing 24 turnovers on defense while recording a team high 89 points on offense. The third-year standout already sits ninth on Stonehill's all-time goals scored list with 103 markers.

The women begin their pursuit of a tenth straight Northeast-10 Regular Season title and Tournament Championship on Saturday, March 8th against Molloy College. The game is scheduled for 11 a.m. at W.B. Mason Stadium.
