Skyhawks Prepare for True Test

Easton, Mass. - The Skyhawks (3-0, 2-0 Northeast-10 Conference) moved up two spots on the IWLCA weekly poll after their 19-3 win over Saint Anselm (2-4, 1-2 Northeast-10).  Stonehill received 71 points to jump into the third spot behind Limestone (7-1) and the reigning NCAA champions, the C.W. Post Pioneers (4-0).  The Skyhawks edged out West Chester and Adelphi for top three honors.

This week, the Purple and White prepare to host the Chargers from the University of New Haven (4-0, 1-0 ECC), Thursday night at W.B. Mason Stadium.  The Stonehill squad is off to an impressive 3-0 start at home this season with dominant wins over Molloy, Merrimack and Saint Anselm.  Their last home loss came on April 27th, to top-ranked C.W. Post, 7-5.

Stonehill's high-scoring trio will look to make a statement against the Chargers, who share the top spot with #5 Adelphi in the East Coast Conference. Michelle Kelly (Mendham, N.J./West Morris Mendham), Kristin Darrell (West Islip, N.Y./West Islip) and Mary Maloney (Great River, N.Y./St. Anthony's) have combined for 35 of the teams 55 goals. As a result the Skyhawks lead the Northeast-10 Conference with 18.3 goals per game and they are second with 25.33 points per game.

New Haven boasts an impressive three-some as well including classmates Brigid Brady, Mallory Ferrandiz and freshman Ashley Ferrandiz.  The Ferrandiz sisters, Central Islip, N.Y. natives, combined for 25 goals in their last four games.  Younger sister, Ashley, was named ECC Women's Lacrosse Rookie of the Week for the second consecutive time after seven goals, one assist, and six groundballs in a 2-0 week for the Chargers.

Amanda McGeachey (Saco, Maine/Thornton Academy) will look to improve on her recent hot streak.  After holding Saint Anselm to only three goals on Saturday, McGeachey earned her third straight Northeast-10 Goaltender of the Week honor.  The senior captain sports a Conference-best 4.67 Goals Against Average, nearly eight scores better than Saint Michael's 12.33 second place mark.

The Chargers travel to Easton on Thursday for their first away contest of 2008.  The Skyhawks, who will be hosting their fourth straight, will travel this weekend for their first visiting contest.  Thursday's game is scheduled for 4:00 p.m.
