Kelly Named NE-10 Player of the Year

Easton Mass. - Junior attacker Michelle Kelly (Mendham, N.J./West Morris Mendham) was named Northeast-10 Conference Player of the Year on Sunday after leading the Stonehill College Skyhawks (14-3, 10-0 Northeast-10 Conference) to their tenth straight Northeast-10 Regular Season title and ninth consecutive Northeast-10 Conference Championship.  Kelly was also one of three Skyhawks to earn First Team All-Conference honors.

Kelly's honor marks the eighth consecutive year a Skyhawk has won the Conference's prestigious honor. She joins 2007 winner teammate Kristin Darrell (West Islip, N.Y./West Islip) and three time winners Erin Acone (2004-2006) and Katie Lambert (2001-2003) in the teams' streak. Stonehill's Allie Riccio also earned a Player of the Year nod in 1999.

Kelly's 91 points are the third highest point total for a Skyhawk in a single season.  She finished the year first in every major offensive category including goals (62), assists (29), and points (91).  She finished the regular season fourth in the Conference standings with 3.71 goals per game.  Kelly leads the Northeast-10 in assists per game (2.00) and is second in total points per game (5.71).  In the Northeast-10 Championship Tournament, Kelly scored 10 goals and added an assist in two games.

Kelly is one of three Skyhawks named to the Northeast-10 Conference First Team.  She is joined by Darrell, a senior, and sophomore Jackie Craig (Rocky Point, N.Y./Rocky Point).  Darrell finished second with 66 total points.  Her 53 markers this season helped her to 241 career goals, a new Stonehill College record.  Craig is an outstanding, young defensive player, who was a key part of Stonehill's top-ranked defense.
