Skyhawks Eye Tenth Straight NE-10 Title

Easton, Mass. - The Stonehill College Skyhawks (8-2, 6-0 Northeast-10 Conference) enter an important four game stretch with their tenth consecutive Northeast-10 Conference Regular Season Championship within sight.  In the next week, the women will take on Assumption, Southern Conn., American Int'l and Saint Michael's leading up to their April 27th show down with C.W. Post, the top-ranked Division II team in the nation according to the IWLCA/Under Armour Weekly Poll.

First on the list is the Assumption College Greyhounds, sporting a 1-11 overall record, 1-6 mark in the Northeast-10 Conference.  Despite their record, the Greyhounds are a solid defensive team led by goaltender Lauren Matysiak.  Matysiak, a 5'11" senior from Holden, Mass., averages 15.10 saves in Assumption's ten contests this season.  Her .462 save percentage is second to Bentley's Christina Gugielmo mark (.478) for tops in the Northeast-10.

The Greyhounds' offense has struggled, reaching double-digit scores only three times this season.  In five of their ten contests, they have been held to five or less goals.  Assumption sits tenth in the NE-10 with 10.17 ppg.

The Skyhawks are looking to rebound after their 14-10 loss to No. 3 Adelphi on Saturday.  In the set-back the Skyhawks, who were trailing 9-3 at halftime, outscored the Panthers 7-5 in the second half.  Junior Michelle Kelly (Mendham, N.J./West Morris Mendham) led the charge with five goals and an assist in the final frame.  Kelly is third in the Conference in goals per game (4.00) and tied for second in points per game (5.44).

Kristin Darrell (West Islip, N.Y./West Islip) is eight goals away from cementing her spot Stonehill's All-Time Record books.  The senior midfielder scored twice against Adelphi, moving her career total to 219.  She is eight scores away from tying Erin Acone (2003-2006) for first on Stonehill's All-Time list.  With one tally in Wednesday's contest, Darrell will tie Head Coach Katie Lambert (2000-2003) for second in the College's books.
