The visiting Chieftains (3-0) posted their first win over a Division I squad in four attempts dating back to 2001, as Stonehill jumped out to a 10-2 advantage at the break en route to its ninth straight triumph and 15th win in the last 16 matches dating back to last March 30th. Senior Courtney Duggan (Billerica, Mass.) added a pair of goals and three assists on the day for the visitors, who also received a pair of goals and two assists from junior Jenny McGrath (Milton, Mass.) and a pair of goals off the stick of sophomore Tracey Hoffman (Nashua, N.H.). Seniors Colette Carpenter (Massapequa, N.Y.) and Brenna Newfell (North Billerica, Mass.), along with junior All-America Erin Acone (Bow, N.H.), each added single goals in the victory for Stonehill, which also received a single assists off the stick of Confer.

Freshman Abbey Capobianco (Framingham, Mass.) paced the host Blue Devils in their season opener with a pair of goals, while sophomore Kathryn Hughes (Olney, Md.) added a goal and an assist on the day for Central Connecticut (0-1), which also received single markers off the sticks of sophomores Julia Steier (West Hartford, Conn.) and Melissa Fertiguena (Hamden, Conn.).

Junior Lauren Stone (Guilderland, N.Y.) picked up the win in goal for Stonehill with a 10-save effort, while sophomore Amanda Zabel (Wildwood, Mo.) made 13 stops in net for Central Connecticut as the Chieftains outshot the Blue Devils by a 33-21 margin in the first-ever meeting between the two schools.

Stonehill is scheduled to open defense of its Northeast-10 Conference championship on Tuesday afternoon when the Chieftains host Bryant in a league match at Chieftain Stadium beginning at 3:30 p.m., while Central Connecticut hosts Vermont in a non-league match on Saturday afternoon at Arute Field beginning at Noon.
