EASTON, Mass.-- Senior Brenna Newfell (North Billerica, Mass.) and freshman Kristin Darrell (West Islip, N.Y.) each netted four goals as third-ranked Stonehill began defense of its Northeast-10 Conference women’s lacrosse title with a 17-1 league victory over Bryant Saturday afternoon at Gorman Field.

The host Chieftains (4-0, 1-0 Northeast-10) claimed their 39th straight Northeast-10 regular season victory and improved to 52-1 all-time in conference play since 1999 by jumping out to a 10-0 advantage at the break and scoring the first 16 goals of the contest. Junior Jenny McGrath (Milton, Mass.) added a hat trick as well for the winners, who also received a pair of goals off the stick of senior All-America Colby Confer (Madison, Conn.) as well as a goal and three assists from senior Colette Carpenter (Massapequa, N.Y.). Sophomore Tracey Hoffman (Nashua, N.H.) chpped in with a goal and two assists on the day for Stonehill, which also received a goal and an assist from senior Courtney Duggan (Billerica, Mass.) and a single tally off the stick of junior All-America Erin Acone (Bow, N.H.).

Junior Marissa Lawrence (Falmouth, Mass.) netted the lone goal of the afternoon for the visiting Bulldogs (2-1, 0-1 Northeast-10) with just over five minutes to play.

Junior Lauren Stone (Guilderland, N.Y.) picked up the win in goal for Stonehill by making just one save in just under 48 minutes of play, while freshman Amanda McGeachey (Saco, Maine) also made one stop in the final 12 minutes of action. Junior Samantha Libby (Penacook, N.H.) made four saves in net for Bryant as the Chieftains outshot the Bulldogs by a 35-10 margin in a re-match of each of the last two Northeast-10 championship contests.

Stonehill hosts American International in a Northeast-10 outing on Tuesday afternoon at Chieftain Stadium beginning at 3:30 p.m., while Bryant travels to Manchester, N.H. to take on Saint Anselm in a Northeast-10 match on Wednesday afternoon that begins at 3:00 p.m.
