Acone Named To Prestigious Tewaaraton Award Watch List As One Of Two Division II Women's Lacrosse Players Nationally To Be Recognized

February 18, 2005

Stonehill College junior women’s lacrosse standout Erin Acone is one of 32 individuals to be named to the 2005 Tewaaraton Award “Watch List”, as the 2004 Northeast-10 Conference Player of the Year and two-time All-America selection is one of two Division II standouts to be on this year’s list for the award presented to the top women’s lacrosse player in the nation for all divisions.

Acone, a native of Bow, N.H. and a graduate of Bow High School, joins Adelphi University’s Katherine Hock as the only two Division II athletes on this year’s Tewaaraton watch list and is the first Chieftain ever to be on the prestigious list, which includes 27 players from Division I institutions and three from Division III schools.

In just two seasons at Stonehill, Acone has already established herself as one of the top attack players in school history, as she already ranks seventh in career points (132), fifth in career goals (96) and ninth in career assists (36). In 2004, Acone became the third Chieftain to earn Northeast-10 Player of the Year accolades (joining former standouts Allie Riccio and Katie Lambert), and she is one of three players in school history to earn All-America honors in each of her first two seasons. Erin netted 52 goals and added 16 assists for 68 points last spring in leading Head Coach Michael Daly’s squad to both the Northeast-10 regular season and tournament titles, and as a freshman she collected 44 goals and 20 assists for 64 points as part of Stonehill’s run to the 2003 NCAA Division II national championship.

Stonehill, ranked fourth in the Lacrosse Magazine Division II national pre-season poll, begins the 2005 season on Sunday, March 6th as the Chieftains square off with Lees-McRae in a non-league match in Gaffney, S.C.
