Simonds Named State Farm/WBCA All-America Finalist
Lilburn, Ga. - Junior Kelsey
Simonds (Middleboro, Mass.) has been named one of the 41
finalists for the 2009 Women's Basketball Coaches Association
(WBCA)/State Farm Division II Coaches' All-America Basketball Teams
made up of the eight different WBCA geographical regions it was
announced recently.
Simonds, an All-Northeast-10 First Team selection for a second
straight season, currently is averaging 15.6 points per game and
8.9 rebounds in 24 games this year. Earlier this season, Simonds
surpassed the 1,000-career point plateau and is coming off of a
14-point, eight-rebound, five-assist, three-block performance in a
72-61 win over Holy Family in the East Region semifinals on
Saturday.
The 41 finalists, who are voted upon by WBCA member coaches in each of the eight WBCA geographical regions, are now in the running for selection to the 10-member State Farm Coaches' All-America Team which will be announced later this month.
Simonds, who was an honorable mention selection a year ago, is joined in region I by Bentley's Kristy McLean, Franklin Pierce's Johannah Leedham, Saint Rose's Lauren Revesz and Holy Family's Catherine Carr.
