No. 15 Skyhawks Take Down Setters 75-54 With Strong Second Half

Pleseantville, N.Y. - Emily Rousseau (Biddeford, Maine) and Kelsey Simonds (Middleboro, Mass.) combined to score 26 second half points as the 15th ranked Skyhawks shot 60 percent from the field after intermission on their way to a 75-54 victory over the Pace Setters on Tuesday evening.

Stonehill shot 50 percent for the game and used a 41 point second half to put away Pace who came into the contest 7-3 in the Northeast-10 and 10-4 overall.

The Skyhawks started the game on the offensive, using two quick buckets by Simonds to open a 4-0 lead and had a 10-5 lead before a 20 second timeout by Pace.

After allowing the Setters to cut the lead to three, Stonehill went on an 11-2 run, holding Pace scoreless for eight and a half minutes. Brittany Huggins ended the drought with a layup that gave the Skyahwks a 21-11 lead with seven minutes remaining in the half.

Stonehill allowed the Setters to get as close as five at 21-16 but a triple by Megan Methven (Corning, N.Y.) extended the lead back to eight at the 4:41 mark.  Rousseau closed out the half by scoring the team's final five points and giving them a 34-27 going into the break.

The Skyhawks put the clamps down on defense in the second half, and went on a 20-6 run over the first six minutes to extend the lead to 20, 55-35, with Simonds scoring nine.

Pace scored four straight but Stonehill went on a 9-2 run of their own, capped off by a Tania Williams (South Setauket, N.Y.) jumper with 8:17 as the Skyhawks lead grew to 25.

The teams exchanged baskets for the rest of the half as coach Trish Brown emptied her bench late in the second.

Rousseau led four players in double figures with 22 points to go along with four assists and four steals.  SImonds (18 points, 7 rebounds), Bethany Tighe (North Easton, Mass.) (10 points, six rebounds) and Methven (10 points, five rebounds) joined her in double figures.

For the Pace Setters, Brittany Huggins came off the bench to score 16, and grab six rebounds.

Stonehill improves to 15-3 (10-3 NE-10) with the win and travel on Saturday to take on the Merrimack Warrriors, with gametime set for 1:00 p.m.
