No. 22 Skyhawks Take 7-0 Mark To St. Rose

Freshman Kristen McWhirter is averaging 9.0 points and 2.9 rebounds in her first seven collegiate contests.

North Easton, Mass. - After opening the season with four relatively easy victories, Stonehill has had to pull out all the stops in the last three games to keep their unblemished mark and earn a No. 22 national ranking.

The UMass-Lowell win required a buzzer-beating layup by freshman Kristen McWhirter (Melvin Village, N.H.) to force a second overtime. The home opener against Franklin Pierce saw the Skyhawks trail for 35 minutes before defeating the Ravens and Tuesday night's win over Assumption was keyed by a second half offensive explosion from sophomore Megan Methven (Corning, N.Y.).

Now after their first two home games of the season, the Skyhawks hit the road again for a Thursday evening matchup with The College of Saint Rose and a Saturday meeting with No. 21 Bentley.

The Golden Knights sit at 2-3 overall and snapped a three game losing skid with a 63-60 road win at Pace on Tuesday. They are led by Emily Gottstein who is averaging 15.2 points and 8.4 rebounds and Elizabeth Buckley's 13.8 points a night. Gottstein had 12 points and 12 boards against the Setters, while Buckley netted 13.

For Stonehill, Erika Stupinski (Topsham, Maine) had her best offensive performance of the season in the win over Assumption, dropping in 14 points and handing out eight assists. Methven scored a season-best 25 points against the Greyhounds, including 17 in the second half. She connected on five three pointers, giving her 100 for her career.

Kelsey Simonds (Middleboro, Mass.) enters the matchup with the Golden Knights averaging 16.9 points and 9.4 rebounds. She has four double-doubles and in the three games in which she doesn't record a double dip, she is still netting 15 points and 7.1 rebounds. The most accurate shooter in the Northeast-10 at 64 percent, Simonds also ranks second on the team with 16 assists.

Junior Bethany Tighe (North Easton, Mass.) has two double-doubles of her own and has reached double figures in all seven games this season, a feat only she and Simonds can claim amongst the Skyhawks.
