North Easton, Mass. - Freshman Kristen McWhirter (Melvin Village, N.H./The New Hampton School) has been named Northeast-10 Freshman of the Week it was announced by the Conference office on Monday.

McWhirter averaged 13.5 points and 3.0 rebounds while going 7-for-11 from behind the arc in two Stonehill victories last week. The two wins gave Stonehill their second nine-game winning streak of the year.

In an 87-75 win over Bryant, McWhirter scored a career-high 17 points in 23 minutes off the bench. In that contest, she connected on 4-of-7 three-point attempts and went 5-for-6 from the free throw line, helping the Skyhawks set a new school record for free throws attempted in a game (45).

Then in a 76-45 win over Merrimack, she added 10 points and three rebounds in just 20 minutes of action.

At 36 percent, McWhirter ranks ninth in the Northeast-10 and is the leader among Conference freshmen in three-point accuracy. So far in 26 games this season, she is averaging 7.2 points and 2.9 rebounds.

Stonehill, now 22-4 overall and 18-3 in Northeast-10 play, returns to action on Tuesday when it travels to St. Anselm for their final regular season game of the year.

The Skyhawks have already clinched the top seed in the Northeast-10 postseason tournament, and with a win over the Hawks, they would claim their first outright Conference title since the 1994-95 season.
