No. 19 Skyhawks Head To LeMoyne

Sophomore Megan Methven is averaging 12.2 points per game and leads the Northeast-10 in three-pointers made (52).

North Easton, Mass. - With what could have been considered the most difficult stretch of their season thus far in their rearview mirror, 19th-ranked Stonehill returns to action on Saturday, making the journey to LeMoyne, as they enter the home stretch of the regular season.

Stonehill will have had a week off following a decisive 67-43 win over Pace last weekend.

During the week layoff, the Skyhawks (15-4, 11-3 NE-10) saw their half game lead over Bentley for first place in the Northeast-10, grow to a full game courtesy of the Falcons' overtime loss at Merrimack on Wednesday. Meanwhile, Assumption and Franklin Pierce, both 11-4 in Conference play, moved to within a half game with Wednesday night victories.

Earlier in the week, Stonehill was ranked second the initial release NCAA Northeast Regional Rankings, behind an undefeated Holy Family (17-0) team from the Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC). The Tigers, who have wins over Northeast-10 teams, St. Michael's and Bentley, are ranked No. 8 in the ESPN/USA Today Division II Poll.

Kelsey Simonds (Middleboro, Mass.) started off the week of news with her selection as Northeast-10 player of the week, following two outstanding performances in a crucial pair of games for the Skyhawks. She averaged 19.5 points and 10.5 rebounds while making 88 percent of her free throws as Stonehill snapped a brief two-game slide.

Following her year off due to injury, Simonds has had a monster junior campaign, averaging 15.8 points, 8.9 rebounds and shooting 52 percent from the field.

Classmate Bethany Tighe (North Easton, Mass.) has enjoyed a stellar campaign as well, recording 11.3 points and 7.7 rebounds a game.

That duo is the only combination of teammates in the Northeast-10 to appear in the top-20 in scoring and the top-10 in rebounding. Add sophomore Megan Methven (Corning, N.Y.) and her 12.2 points, and the Skyhawks is only one of two teams to have three players in the top15 in scoring.

Senior point guard Erika Stupinski (Topsham, Maine) is fourth in the nation and first in the Conference in assists at 7.4 helpers a night. She also ranks fourth in the league in steals (2.67) and sixth in assist-to-turnover ratio.

The Dolphins, at 10-10 overall, have been playing without their leading scorer, Kim Wagoner, for the last 11 games. Through her first nine contests, Wagoner had been averaging 13 points a game. Courtney Coryea has picked up the slack for LeMoyne, notching 11.3 points and 8.1 rebounds a night. She has also taken over the blocked shots lead from Simonds, with 2.05 rejections per game.

Following Saturday's contest, Stonehill will play its next three at home beginning with Tuesday's tilt with UMass-Lowell, a team that took the Skyhawks to double-overtime in late November.
