Smithfield, R.I. - On arguably the warmest day in New England in the past few weeks, No. 15 Stonehill went cold, shooting a frosty 31 percent en route to dropping their first game of the season, a 59-53 road decision to Bryant at the Chace Athletic Center on Wednesday evening.

The Bulldogs, who now own the Northeast-10's longest current winning streak at four games, have defeated ranked teams in two of their last three games after having knocked off previously ranked Bentley last week.

The Skyhawks went down swinging, trimming a 15 point halftime lead down to two with 16 seconds to go after a three-point play by junior Kelsey Simonds (Middleboro, Mass.), but Bryant's Kelsey O'Keefe made four straight free throws to end the Skyhawks season-opening winning streak.

O'Keefe recorded game-high honors with 17 points, while Courtney Schemmerhorn added 14 for Bryant who improves to 6-2 overall and 5-2 in the Northeast-10.

Stonehill opened the game going 7-for-27 from the field in the first 20 minutes and never led as the Bulldogs, who came into the contest having only 24 made three pointers, dropped in seven of their 11 attempts, while the Skyhawks shot a season-low 22 percent from behind the arc (6-for-27).

Down 50-38 with a little less than three minutes to go, the Skyhawks made their surge, with back-to-back threes from Megan Methven (Corning, N.Y.) and Erika Stupinski (Topsham, Maine), but Bryant guard Lynne-Ann Kokoski answered with a long jumper to up the lead back to eight.

Stonehill held a 42-36 advantage on the boards and a 16-10 edge in points in the paint, but committed 20 turnovers which the Bulldogs converted into 23 points.

Simonds led the Skyhawk contingent with 15 points and eight rebounds, while Stupinski had 14 points and four helpers. For the second straight game the Stonehill got excellent production from its bench with sophomore Erin Gray (Clifton Park, N.Y.) getting four points and six rebounds and freshman Ashley Caiafa (Massapequa, N.Y.) providing six points and seven rebounds.

The Skyhawks, now 9-1 overall and 6-1 in the Northeast-10 get a week off for exams before heading to Florida for two games at the Cruzin' Classic in Miami Shores.
