No. 15 Stonehill Visits Assumption Saturday

Sophomore Megan Methven scored a season-high 25 points in her last meeting with the Greyhounds.

North Easton, Mass. - Riding a six-game winning streak, the 15th ranked Skyhawks (19-4) head to Assumption (20-5) Saturday, in a game that has regular season, Northeast-10 Tournament and NCAA Tournament implications.

The Skyhawks (15-3 NE-10) hold a one game lead over the host Greyhounds (14-4 NE-10) and Franklin Pierce (14-4 NE-10) entering Saturday's contest. Stonehill has already split their season series with the Ravens and took the first meeting with Assumption, 66-60 back in early December.

Assumption also finds itself behind Stonehill in the latest release of the NCAA Regional Rankings. The Skyhawks are ranked second in the Northeast Region, behind only an undefeated Holy Family squad of the CACC, that sits at 23-0.

The Greyhounds are ranked fourth in the regional rankings behind the Skyhawks and Ravens despite being the only Northeast-10 team with 20 victories.

Stonehill, in search of its first outright Northeast-10 regular season title since the 1995-96 season, has already matched its Conference win total from a season ago, and sports an 8-3 mark away from Merkert Gymnasium. The Skyhawks also have a familiarity with Assumption's home court, having won two games earlier this year versus Concordia and Molloy by a combined 57 points.

This trip to Laska Gymnasium, however, the Skyhawks are likely to face stiffer competition in the Greyhounds, who are holding opponents to 36 percent shooting and 58 points a game. Since dropping their earlier meeting to Stonehill, Assumption has rattled off wins in 13 of their last 15 contests, including nine by double digits.

Assumption has been led by junior Bethany Plasski, who is averaging 15.8 points per game and is 12 points shy of 1,000 for her career.

They are also getting double-digit efforts from sophomore Kayla Parker (10.3 points, 4.6 rebounds) and freshman Molly Griffiths (10.6 points, 4.2 rebounds), who has started all 25 games thus far this season.

Greyhound senior Charde Floyd has missed the last two games but is averaging nearly a double-double at 9.7 points and a Conference-best 10.5 rebounds.

Stonehill, meanwhile, has outscored its opponents by nearly 14 points per game during its current winning streak. Junior Kelsey Simonds (Middleboro, Mass./Cardinal Spellman), who has two double-doubles during the stretch, is averaging 16.1 points and 8.5 rebounds in her 23 games this season, both fifth best in the Northeast-10.

Senior Erika Stupinski (Topsham, Maine/Mount Ararat) has 19 assists in her last two games for Stonehill and is fourth in the country at 7.4 helpers a night.

The Skyhawks are second in the Northeast-10 in three-point shooting (.343) and in their last meeting with Assumption, Stonehill connected on 7-of-16 attempts from behind the arc, led by sophomore Megan Methven (Corning, N.Y./Corning Painted Post East), who drained all four of her tries, en route to a season-high 25 points.

Despite not making a three-pointer in her last game, Methven still leads the Conference at 2.5 triples made per game.
