FINAL: UMASS LOWELL 64, STONEHILL 55

LOWELL, Mass.-- Sophomore Revital Carmon (Bat-Yam, Israel) scored 14 points and grabbed six rebounds to lead four players in double figures as UMass Lowell scored 23 of the game's final 37 points to post a 64-55 Northeast-10 Conference women's basketball victory over 21st-ranked Stonehill Tuesday evening at the Costello Center.

With the game tied at 41 with 7:44 remaining, the host River Hawks (9-14, 5-14 Northeast-10) used a quick 9-3 surge over a 2:05 span to grab a 50-44 lead on a jumper by sophomore Shaina Berry (Friendswood, Tex.) with 5:39 to play. The visiting Skyhawks (17-6, 12-6 Northeast-10) sliced that margin back to a bucket on a lay-in by senior Alisha Collins (Port Chester, N.Y.) with 4:57 remaining, but a pair of Carmon free throws helped restore UMass Lowell's six point lead with 2:30 to go, as after a Collins three-pointer on the ensuing possession enabled Stonehill to close back to within three, a pair of three-pointers by freshman Megan Berry (Ipswich, Mass.) gave the hosts a nine-point edge (62-53) with 1:33 to play, as a pair of Carmon free throws with 26 seconds remaining iced the River Hawk triumph.

UMass Lowell opened up a six-point lead (9-3) just 4:26 into the contest, but Stonehill used a 15-2 run over an 8:57 stretch to take an 11-point cushion (24-13) on a Collins three-pointer with four minutes remaining in the half. The River Hawks scored the final 10 points before intermission to trail 24-23 at the break, and the two teams traded the lead three times early in the second half before the hosts broke away.

Shaina Berry added 11 points and five boards in the win for UMass Lowell, which also received 10 points each from Megan Berry and sophomore Antonnea Robinson (West Haven, Conn.). The River Hawks shot 41 percent from the field overall, including a 50 percent effort in the final 20 minutes of play alone, while holding a 42-37 rebounding advantage for the contest.

Collins led all scorers with 22 points in the setback for Stonehill, which also received 10 points from senior Kim Morast (Bridgewater, Mass.). Freshman Megan Methven (Corning, N.Y.) chipped in with seven points for the visitors, who also received six points, seven rebounds and four assists from senior Tiffany Huggins (Stoughton, Mass.). The Skyhawks shot 33 percent from the field for the evening, including just a 26 percent effort from behind the arc.

Stonehill travels to Waltham, Mass. on Saturday afternoon to take on Bentley in a Northeast-10 outing that tips-off at 2:30 p.m., while UMass Lowell heads to Syracuse, N.Y. on Saturday afternoon to square off with LeMoyne in a Northeast-10 match-up that begins at 1:00 p.m.
