Merkert Gymnasium, Easton, Mass.

FINAL: STONEHILL 108, CONCORDIA (N.Y.) 38

EASTON, Mass.-- Freshman Megan Methven (Corning, N.Y.) scored 18 points to lead six players in double figures as Stonehill recorded its second-highest single-game scoring total in school history in a 108-38 non-league college women's basketball victory over Concordia (N.Y.) as part of the 2006 Northeast-10/East Coast Conference Challenge Sunday afternoon at Merkert Gymnasium.

The host Skyhawks (5-0) scored the first 14 points of the contest en route to a 59-11 advantage at the break, as Stonehill's scoring total in the first 20 minutes of action also ranks as the second highest scoring first half in school history, surpassed only by a 61-point effort at Springfield during the 1992-93 campaign. The Skyhawks opened the second half on a 19-5 run to increase their lead to 62 points and led by as many as 72 points in the closing minutes in reaching the 108-point mark, which fell one shy of the school record of 109 points set during the 1994-95 campaign at Assumption but represents the highest single-game Stonehill scoring total in Merkert Gymnasium history.

Seniors Kim Morast (Bridgewater, Mass.) and Caitlin Kennedy (Baldwin, N.Y.) each added 16 points for the winners, who also received career-highs of 13 points each from junior Daryl Cioffi (New Milford, N.J.) and sophomore Bethany Tighe (North Easton, Mass.) as well as 10 points from junior Erika Stupinski (Topsham, Maine). Junior Meghan Driscoll (Bridgewater, Mass.) scored eight points, grabbed a career-best nine rebounds and dished off seven assists for the Skyhawks, who also received a career-high seven assists and six points from freshman Stephanie Pintal (Nashua, N.H.) as well as six points and five boards from freshman Diondra Primus (New Paltz, N.Y.). Senior Tiffany Huggins (Stoughton, Mass.) chipped in with three assists and three rebounds for Stonehill, as all 11 Skyhawks scored at least two points on the afternoon. The hosts shot 57 percent from the field overall and canned 15 three-pointers (the third highest single-game total in school history) in shooting 83 percent from behind the arc. Stonehill also held a commanding 51-20 rebounding edge and recorded 33 assists on 42 field goals while scoring 40 points off of turnovers, as the Skyhawks recorded their second 100-point outing in just over a year after netting 101 points in a November triumph over Bentley in 2005.

Junior Danielle Bacon (Levittown, N.Y.) led the visiting Clippers (0-5) in the scoring column with 10 points and three steals, while freshman Danielle McLaughlin (Staten Island, N.Y.) added eight points for Concordia, which also received six points and three boards from freshman Dana Rommel (Staten Island, N.Y.). The visitors shot 30 percent from the field and connected on only 2-of-23 three-point attempts, as the Clippers committed 27 turnovers and were outscored in the paint by a 42-8 margin.

Stonehill hosts UMass Lowell in a Northeast-10 Conference outing on Wednesday evening at Merkert Gymnasium beginning at 5:30 p.m., while Concordia heads to Sparkill, N.Y. on Wednesday evening to take on St. Thomas Aquinas in an East Coast Conference match-up that also begins at 5:30 p.m.
