Kevin Gill set the freshman record in the 1 Mile
Run with an outstanding time of 4:10.97.
This mark
ranks him third all-time in Stonehill history behind Fran
Guardabascio and older brother Keith Gill
(Brockton, Mass.). Gill’s record
setting run defeated James LaGreca and David Emerson, both juniors
from Boston College.
Kevin’s 4:10.97 finish shattered his previous best of 4:19.73 – registered at the Harvard Invitational earlier this season. In the process, Gill has qualified for the NCAA National Championships.
Teammate Tyler Guilemette took top honors in the Men’s Long Jump with a 22’6” leap. Tyler’s mark broke his personal and school record by approximately 1.75” inches. Guilemette, a junior, passed teammate Dana Burbank (21’0.5”) earlier this season with a 22’4.25” mark.
Junior Torrey Price (Sleepy Hollow, N.Y.) earned
top honors in the Men’s 55 Meter Dash. Price scorched the
competition with a 6.47 finish.
Torrey’s closest opponent was Sean Smith,
a junior from Central Connecticut.
Smith
finished in 6.56.
Kevin Gill was not the only freshman to have an impressive
showing. Rookie Brian Reilly
(Oakland, N.J.) claimed second place in the third heat of the
Men’s 400 Meter Dash.
Reilly
finished in 53.31. Also, Freshman Jason Lynch (Lynbrook, N.Y.) placed
13th in the Men’s
5000 Meter Run behind teammates Josh Andrews (Chelmsford, Mass.)
and Matt
Meagher (Mansfield, Mass.), who finished eighth and fifth
respectfully.
In the field events, freshman Pat Fanning (Rockland, Mass.)
out-threw Holy Cross’ Ken McKenna in the Shot Put.
Fanning claimed
another top spot for the Skyhawks with a 11.69m
mark. Senior Russell Miranda
(West Warwick, R.I.) finished first in his heat for the Weight
Throw with a 13.84m mark.
Seniors Keith Gill and David Metzger (Ellington, Conn.) will compete in the Terrier Classic today at Boston University. The entire men’s team will return to action February 2nd at the Tufts Stampede.
