Four Skyhawks Reach All-America Goals

Distance Medley Results 

Mankato, Minn. – Four members of the Men’s Track & Field team finished fifth at the 2008 NCAA Division II Indoor Championships held at Minnesota State University.  The Distance Medley team, comprised of three seniors and one freshman, competed in day one of the two-day event.

Senior classmates Dickie Gerry (Bow, N.H./Bow), Tom Woods (Medfield, Mass./Medfield) and David Metzger (Ellington, Conn./Ellington) joined rookie Kevin Gill (Brockton, Mass./Brockton) in the teams’ fifth place finish.    The four-some registered a 10:05.35 finish in the event.  The top eight spots in every event earn the All-America honors.

Also representing the Northeast-10 Conference, UMass-Lowell (10:07.65) finished seconds behind the Skyhawks in sixth place.  Grand Valley State took the event’s top spot with a 9:53.43 finish.

The Distance Medley is comprised of four individual events linked into one race.  Gerry led the Skyhawks, completing the 1200 Meter Run first.  Woods followed in the 400 Meter Dash.  Kevin Gill competed in the third leg of the race, the 800 Meter Run.  Metzger finished the event strong in the 1600 Meter Run.

The final round of the 1 Mile Run will take place Saturday.  Both Kevin Gill and Keith Gill (Brockton, Mass./Brockton) qualified in the preliminary round held Friday.  Kevin finished with a time of 4:14.34, while brother Keith registered a 4:17.32 time.  The meet continues at noon tomorrow.
