Gill Collects Third 'Freshman of the Year' Honor
Easton, Mass. - Kevin Gill (Brockton,
Mass./Brockton) finished his record season with more hardware than
most athletes earn in a lifetime. Gill, a freshman, became
Stonehill College's first ever student to win the Northeast-10
Conference's Freshman of the Year award three times in a single
year. A three sport athlete, Gill received the Conference's
prestigious award for Men's Cross Country, Men's Indoor Track and
Field and earlier this month for Men's Outdoor Track and Field.
Gill's path to three Freshman of the Year honors is littered with
broken records and first-year milestones. Most recently Gill,
who's older brother Keith also runs for the Skyhawks, broke his
sibling's record in the 1500 Meter Run with a time of
3:50.17. Gill's record-setting run at the Princeton
Invitational (4/18) not only rewrote the College's history, the
freshman earned his spot in an unprecedented third consecutive NCAA
Championship, which will be held on May 22nd at Chico, Calif.
Gill also qualified for the USA Juniors - an event geared toward the top runners under 19 years old. The event will be held June 21st at Columbus, Ohio.
As a team, the Skyhawks finished third at the Northeast-10 Conference Outdoor Championship. At the New England Championships, an event which hosts Division I, II, and III teams, the Skyhawks finished eighth out of over 60 teams.
