Perfect 10! Gill Brothers Featured In Sports Illustrated

Keith and Kevin Gill join eight other Stonehill Student-athletes to be featured in the famed weekly publication.

 

Easton, Mass. - Brothers Keith and Kevin Gill (Brockton, Mass.) became the ninth and tenth Stonehill student-athletes to be featured in the popular "Faces in the Crowd" section of Sports Illustrated when the two were profiled in the April 7, 2008 edition of the weekly publication that hit newsstands on Thursday.

The duo, honored for their performances throughout the indoor season, join five other student-athletes from around the country in the long-running segment of the famed magazine.

Keith blazed his way to Northeast-10 Championships in the 800 meters and 4x800, in addition to the first-ever New England Indoor championship in school history, when he claimed victory in the 1000 meters, setting a new school record along the way.

For most of the season he held the nation's fastest time in the mile (4:03.43), which he set at Boston University's Valentine Invitational. The awards rolled in for Keith, collecting Northeast-10 Indoor Athlete of the Year, Northeast Region Athlete of the Year and Division II National Track Athlete of the Year, as awarded by the U.S. Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association.

Kevin, meanwhile burst onto the scene during the cross country season and continued his excellence during the indoor portion of the year. He earned All-America distinction on two occasions at the NCAA Championships, finishing sixth in the mile and fifth as a member of the Stonehill Distance Medley. He won Northeast-10 Championships in 1,000 meters and distance medley before collection All-New England honors in the mile run.

The other eight Stonehill student-athletes who have been profiled are current women's lacrosse head coach, Katie Lambert (June 16, 2003); Rob Pascale (Ice Hockey, December 28, 2003); Lauren Stone (Women's Lacrosse, May 16, 2004); Kelsey Simonds (Women's Basketball, January 23, 2006); Brendan O'Brien (February 20, 2006); Erin Acone (Women's Lacrosse, June 12, 2006), Caitlin Gleason (Field Hockey, October 2, 2006) and Aly Boulis (October 22, 2007).

The magazine, which has over three million subscribers, is read by over 23 million people each week and has featured more than 15,000 different athletes in its "Faces In The Crowd" section.
